On 20 August 2026, political consultations were held at the level of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.

During the consultations, the sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues of the bilateral agenda.

Particular attention was paid to further improving the mechanisms of political and diplomatic interaction.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the effectiveness of their partnership within the framework of the United Nations, where the Republic of Tajikistan has co-sponsored more than 30 resolutions adopted at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

Particular attention was devoted to the development of trade and economic cooperation, with the steady growth in trade turnover between the two countries being noted. In this context, the sides considered prospects for expanding partnership in the fields of energy, transport and communications, agriculture, trade and investment.

It was noted that this year Dushanbe hosted the 14th meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, as well as the second meeting of the Turkmen-Tajik Business Council, reflecting the intensification of constructive bilateral partnership.

Significant attention during the consultations was devoted to cultural and humanitarian cooperation. In this regard, the sides discussed joint activities planned for implementation in the near future.

Following the consultations, the sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue constructive dialogue, taking into account their mutual commitment to strengthening friendly Turkmen-Tajik relations.

On the same day, a signing ceremony was held for the Cooperation Programme between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2027–2028.
