On August 28, 2026, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a conference dedicated to the socio-political significance of the upcoming meeting of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, planned for September 23, 2026, as well as to the United Nations General Assembly resolution entitled “2028 - International Year of Law,” adopted upon the initiative of Turkmenistan. The event was attended by the member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairperson of the Turkmen National Cultural Centre G. Avezdurdiyeva, representatives of the Turkmen diaspora, as well as fellow citizens working and studying in Uzbekistan.
The speakers highlighted the significant role of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan in the country’s socio-political life, the consolidation of society, the consideration of issues of national importance, and the identification of strategic priorities for national development.
Particular attention was paid to the forthcoming meeting, which will take place on the eve of the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence. It was emphasized that this nationwide forum would provide an important platform for reviewing the achievements of the years of independence, considering the key areas of the country’s further socio-economic development, and defining long-term objectives aimed at strengthening sovereignty, improving the well-being of the people, and ensuring the country’s sustainable and progressive development.
The conference also focused on the international initiative put forward by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to declare the year 2028 as the International Year of International Law. It was noted that the relevant resolution, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and co-sponsored by 78 Member States, demonstrates the international community’s wide support for Turkmenistan’s efforts to strengthen the rule of international law and promote a culture of dialogue and trust in interstate relations.
The event concluded with a cultural programme featuring musical compositions performed on the dutar, a traditional Turkmen musical instrument. The craftsmanship of dutar making and the traditional art of performing on the instrument are inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
