An official reception dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the state independence of the Republic of Armenia was held in Ashgabat. The festive event was attended by deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan G. Agajanov, heads and staff of diplomatic missions, representatives of international organisations, as well as members of the Armenian diaspora.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Turkmenistan Arsen Avagyan addressed the participants of the celebration with a welcoming speech. In his speech, the diplomat emphasised that the development of friendly relations with Turkmenistan, based on the principles of mutual respect, equality, and mutual interest, occupies a special place on the foreign policy agenda of Yerevan.
The Ambassador noted that recent years have been marked by a noticeable intensification of the Armenian-Turkmen political dialogue. A clear confirmation of this was the three visits of the President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan to Turkmenistan - in October 2024, as well as in August and December 2025.
«During the December working visit, President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The parties discussed the further development of political, economic, educational, and cultural cooperation, the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, expanding cooperation in the energy and communications sectors, and infrastructure development. In March 2025, the tenth meeting of the Armenian-Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission was also held, during which promising areas of cooperation in trade, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism, education, and culture were discussed», – the head of the diplomatic mission said.
In turn, deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan G. Agajanov delivered a welcoming speech. The deputy-prime conveyed the warm wishes of the leadership of the country, emphasising that the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov are prioritising the comprehensive strengthening of long-standing friendly ties with the Republic of Armenia.
G. Agajanov emphasised that the progressive development of bilateral cooperation and constructive mutual support for initiatives within authoritative international structures, primarily the UN, make a significant contribution to ensuring stability and expanding regional cooperation. The deputy-prime placed special emphasis on the positive dynamics of trade and economic relations between the states.
«The governments of the two countries attach particular importance to intensifying mutual trade, expanding the range of export-import goods, and developing new areas of cooperation. The positive dynamics of trade turnover demonstrate the existence of significant potential for further joint work, particularly in the trade and economic, transport, industrial, agricultural, and humanitarian spheres, including in the areas of healthcare, science, sports, and tourism», – declared G. Agajanov.
