During a working visit to Japan, a Turkmen delegation comprising representatives of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan took part in the international forum “Science and Technology in Society” (STS), as well as in the 22nd Science and Technology Ministers’ Roundtable held as part of the forum.

The official opening of the forum took place on October 4 in the Japanese city of Kyoto. Prime Minister of Japan Sanae Takaichi addressed the participants with welcoming remarks, emphasizing in her speech that scientific innovations should serve global sustainable development, peace, and the well-being of humanity.

In his address, STS Forum Chairman Hiroshi Komiyama noted that in an era of rapid scientific and technological development, international cooperation and multilateral dialogue are of particular importance for overcoming the challenges facing the world and making effective use of new opportunities.

The introductory plenary and thematic sessions of the forum examined development prospects through 2030 and beyond. Particular attention was paid to the development, based on ethical principles, of such areas as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and renewable energy.

During the forum, a plenary session chaired by Julie Maxton, Executive Director of the Royal Society of London, was held to discuss in detail both the positive impact of artificial intelligence on society and the ethical and practical risks associated with it.

The sessions featured valuable ideas on integrating scientific achievements with environmental protection goals, increasing investment in human capital amid digitalization, and the role of higher education institutions in training a new generation of specialists. This dialogue among the participants further enhanced the significance of the forum as an important event in strengthening the connection between science and society.

As part of the event, on October 5, President of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan Allaberdi Ashyrov spoke at the special session “Academy of Science Presidents’ Meeting.”

In his speech, he provided a detailed overview of Turkmenistan’s state policy strategy for developing research activities, introducing advanced technologies into production, and supporting and training young scientists. The speaker emphasized the great importance of strengthening international scientific cooperation, implementing joint innovative projects, and exchanging experience among academies of sciences in order to achieve sustainable development goals.

The participation of the Turkmen delegation in this forum is of great importance for expanding international cooperation and friendly ties, enhancing the country’s educational and research potential, as well as introducing advanced international experience into the activities of national educational and scientific institutions.

The visit of the Turkmen delegation to Japan, organized with the aim of further developing scientific, educational, and technological cooperation, will continue until October 8.

Earlier, we reported that, as part of the visit, the Turkmen delegation held meetings with representatives of leading universities, research institutions, and technology companies.
