Meeting between the President of Turkmenistan and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan

On October 8, 2026, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the high-level events held in the "Avaza" National Tourist Zone.

Warmly welcoming the leader of Uzbekistan, the head of Turkmenistan thanked the distinguished guest for accepting the invitation to visit Turkmenistan to participate in the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as in the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State. As President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, the participation of the Republic of Uzbekistan in these important international events is of particular significance.

Turkmenistan highly values the personal attention paid by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the development of regional cooperation, said the head of state, emphasizing that the meetings in Avaza are viewed as an opportunity for an open exchange of views, the development of joint approaches, and the definition of new directions for practical interaction.

Thanking him for the warm words and hospitality, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the head of Turkmenistan on the successful holding of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Expressing confidence that the decisions adopted during the meeting will contribute to the progressive development of interstate partnership, the President of Uzbekistan took the opportunity to convey heartfelt greetings to the Hero-Arkadag.

In the continuation of the meeting, it was noted that the friendly, good-neighborly Turkmen-Uzbek relations are of a long-term and strategic nature.

Turkmenistan attaches special importance to the development of fruitful cooperation with the Republic of Uzbekistan. The countries are united not only geographically, but also by a historically established cultural and spiritual community.

Emphasizing the productivity of interaction within the framework of the UN, ECO, and CIS, where the sides consistently support each other's initiatives, the head of state noted that the full mutual understanding and openness inherent in the Turkmen-Uzbek dialogue at the highest level act as a significant factor in the development of mutually beneficial strategic partnership.

Noting that a solid experience of interstate interaction has been accumulated in the trade and economic sphere, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as a clear confirmation of this, cited the fact of the opening of the Turkmen-Uzbek cross-border trade zone in November last year.

One of the promising areas of bilateral cooperation is partnership in the field of transport and logistics.

Separately noting the key role of cultural and humanitarian interaction, the head of state emphasized that holding Days of Culture and festivals, along with regular dialogue between figures of arts and science, will provide a powerful impetus to the mutual enrichment of ties between the peoples and the strengthening of bilateral relations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, expressing confidence that the traditionally friendly interstate dialogue will continue to strengthen, the heads of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan wished each other good health and success in their state activities, and well-being and prosperity to the brotherly peoples of both countries.

Following the results of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Treaty on the Establishment of the Supreme Council of Strategic Partnership between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
