On 13 October 2026, the regular meeting of the Subcommittee on Scientific and Technical Cooperation of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was held in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, People’s Republic of China. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan. 

The meeting was chaired by the President of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, Co-Chair of the Subcommittee from the Turkmen side, Mr. Allaberdy Ashirov and Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, Co-Chair from the Chinese side, Mr. Zhang Guangjun.

In accordance with the agenda of the meeting, progress on the work carried out since the previous meeting of the Subcommittee was reviewed, and it was noted that the agreements reached had been successfully implemented and that the research institutions and specialists of the two countries had carried out effective cooperation in a number of areas.

The following areas were identified as priority areas for bilateral cooperation in science and technology: implementation of the scientific achievements into the oil, gas and energy sectors; conduct of the scientific exchange in the development of petrochemical technologies and nanomaterials; strengthening the academic foundation and improving practical skills in the field of artificial intelligence; continuing cooperation on reducing seismic risks; exchange of the experience in the implementation of advanced synthetic biology and precision gene-editing methods in the development of conventional agricultural microorganisms; combating desertification and preserving biodiversity; and cooperation in cotton breeding and water-saving irrigation systems.

An agreement was reached on the development of practical cooperation and the implementation of joint research projects in the above-mentioned key areas.

During the meeting, the importance of the “Programme for Scientific, Technical and Innovative Cooperation for 2026–2028 between the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China” and its Plan, signed in April 2026, was emphasized.

With the aim of further strengthening the legal basis of cooperation, following the results of the meeting, the Protocol of the 3rd meeting of the Subcommittee on Scientific and Technical Cooperation of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was signed.
