CIET 2026: Ashgabat Advocates for Environmental Transformation and Innovation

Within the framework of the International Conference and Exhibition "Development of the Construction, Industrial, Chemical and Energy Sectors of Turkmenistan" (CIET 2026) taking place in the Turkmen capital, the Hakim of the city of Ashgabat, Rahym Gandymov, delivered a keynote address. The speech was devoted to the strategic directions of modernizing the capital, the introduction of "green" technologies and the expansion of international partnership.

The Hakim of Ashgabat expressed deep gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, for their constant attention to the development of the capital. It was emphasized that the modernization of urban infrastructure, the introduction of advanced technologies and the creation of maximally comfortable living conditions for citizens serve as priorities of the country's state policy.

As R. Gandymov noted, modern cities throughout the world face a set of large-scale challenges: climate change, the growing demand for energy and water resources, as well as the need for continuous renewal of infrastructure.

"For Ashgabat, the tasks of rational nature management, improving energy efficiency and adapting the urban environment to the climatic characteristics of the region are acquiring particular relevance. Given the arid climate of Turkmenistan, priority importance in the urban development strategy is given to efficient and careful water use, large-scale greening of territories, the introduction of energy-saving technologies and the application of environmentally responsible approaches in the construction sector," said R. Gandymov.

An important part of the capital's development is the digital transformation of municipal management. The introduction of intelligent transport systems, digital services and modern monitoring complexes for engineering networks makes it possible to qualitatively improve the efficiency of resource distribution and the level of service to the population.

Thus, Ashgabat is consistently strengthening cooperation with leading global structures, including the United Nations Development Programme and UN-Habitat, in the field of sustainable urban development and environmental protection.

In this context, R. Gandymov emphasized that the capital of Turkmenistan is open to deepening dialogue and expanding practical interaction with international development institutions and cities of the world in such areas as energy-efficient construction and sustainable infrastructure, digitalization of municipal management, as well as the development of environmentally safe transport.

"I am convinced that the pooling of efforts of state structures, financial institutions and the private sector will make it possible to give additional impetus to the implementation of promising projects and the attraction of advanced technologies. Therefore, guided by the principles of positive neutrality, peace and mutually beneficial cooperation, Turkmenistan is consistently developing a constructive international dialogue in the name of sustainable development and universal well-being, and Ashgabat is open to further expanding cooperation with the UN, international development institutions and cities of various countries of the world," concluded the Hakim of Ashgabat.
