Talks between leader of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Hungary

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Hungary Pal Schmitt, who had arrived for official visit to Turkmenistan, held the talks in the Turkmen capital.

In the morning the distinguished guest headed from the Oguzkent Hotel to the Oguzkhan Presidential Palace Complex where President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov cordially and heartily greeted him at the main entrance. The leaders of the two states shook hands and entered the Oguzkhan Hall where the official ceremony of greeting the distinguished guest took place.

After the official greeting ceremony was concluded the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited his Hungarian counterpart to enter the Gold Hall where they had the one to one talks.

Cordially and heartily greeting the distinguished guest in the ancient and hospitable Turkmen land, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed belief that the first visit of the leader of Hungary to Turkmenistan would be the prologue to successful interstate cooperation and contribute to strengthening the ties of friendship and mutual understanding between the two nations.

“Turkmenistan and the Republic of Hungary are bound with friendship and partnership based on mutual respect, equality and willingness to advance and develop. I believe that our counties have the sufficient opportunities to expand cooperation,” said the leader of Turkmenistan.

Underlining the need to search for new, promising options for collaboration between the two countries, the Turkmen leader said Turkmenistan was interested in promoting cooperation with Hungary in the fields such as the power and metallurgy industries, machine building, agriculture and others and the effectiveness of cooperation in the spheres of health care, sport and tourism.

Turkmenistan as a country with abundant oil and gas resources and the convenient geoeconomic location has the profound potential and favourable conditions for cooperation, said President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focusing on the importance of enhancing cultural and humanitarian relations, cooperation in the spheres of science, education and applied research.

“We have a profound respect for the unique rich culture of the Hungarian people,” continued the Turkmen leader, “and believe that Hungary holds the same view of the historical heritage of the Turkmen people. Further mutual enrichment of our cultures based on the traditions of friendship will promote our bilateral relationships. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said the Turkmen-Hungarian talks in Ashgabat would be an opportunity to discuss these issues and elaborate the next steps to enhance mutually advantageous cooperation.

Expressing belief once again that this meeting would become a milestone in further development of friendship and expansion of mutually advantageous partnership between the two countries and underlining Turkmenistan’s readiness to expand bilateral cooperation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave the floor to President of the Republic of Hungary Pal Schmitt.

A substantive exchange of views on a wide spectrum of aspects of Turkmen-Hungarian collaboration took place in a businesslike, constructive atmosphere. Noting that the two states had the profound potential of mutually advantageous partnership and stood ready to develop fruitful cooperation on a long-term basis, the sides reaffirmed that it should be intensified at the interstate level as well as within the authoritative international organisations, including within the Turkmenistan-European Union dialogue. The fuel and energy, transport, communications, trade, health care, tourism and other sectors were mentioned as the major areas of partnership. The sides called for promotion of close contacts in the spheres of education and culture. The sides also exchanged views on a number of topical issues of international politics of mutual interest.

Expressing belief that the interstate dialogue would be successfully developed, the two leaders emphasized that the similarity of views of the two states on peace, security and sustainable development issues stood as an essential factor in this process.

The talks were continued in the Gorkut Ata Hall with participation of the government delegations of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Hungary.
