These days the most frequently mentioned geographical names in the news of the leading news agencies, printed and electronic publications all over the world are Southern Yoloten-Osman and Yashlar. They are the key-note of numerous comments of experts and analysts specializing in the oil and gas sector which is a sphere of core interests of the world business. The supergiant block of the unique Southern Yoloten-Osman, Minara and Yashlar fields ranking among the recent greatest discoveries on the energy map of Eurasia is placed by its gas potential as the world’s second largest gas field. This fact has enhanced Turkmenistan’s status as one of the world’s energy superpowers.

The independent audit confirmed the huge gas reserves in Turkmenistan. This is leitmotif nearly all reports marked “urgent!”

In the reports on the results of the recent audit of Southern Yoloten-Osman and Yashlar gas deposits conducted by the Gaffney, Cline & Associates firm, the news agencies Associated Press (US) and Reuters (UK) underlined that “Turkmenistan's gas reserves are more than enough for any potential demand over the foreseeable future, whether it be from China, Russia, Iran or Europe.”

In this context it was emphasized that the proved gas reserves in the Southern Yoloten-Osman, Minara and Yashlar gas fields estimated at 26.2 trillion cubic metres might rise further. It is mostly probable that the data received from further exploration work to be carried out on the vast territory of the oil and gas bearing field will allow the current gas reserves estimates to exceed.

“Turkmenistan holds the world’s second largest gas field”, the other authoritative British edition – the Daily Telegraph reports. Underlining Turkmenistan’s growing importance as a global energy supplier, the Daily Telegraph notes that “Turkmen gas is vital to a number of ambitious pipeline projects, including the Nabucco project, which aims to pump gas from the Caspian to central Europe.” The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline project was mentioned as the major options.

Reporting the sensational news, many Russian printed and electronic editions, including Vedomosti, Moscow Time, EnergoNews, the Rosbalt News Agency, PRIME-TASS, provide detailed comments on the results of the independent international audit of hydrocarbon treasuries in the east of Turkmenistan

Almost all publications quotes British auditor Gaffney, Cline & Associates Jim Gillett, who conducted the audit of the gas reserves in the Southern Yoloten-Osman and Yashlar fields and provides concrete figures illustrating the tremendous potential of these fields.

Kommersant says the new estimate places the Southern Yoloten field second only to the South Pars field (Iran and Qatar) in terms of gas reserves estimated at 28 trillion cubic metres. Russia's Urengoy field with the gas reserves estimated at 7 trillion cubic metre ranks the third.

Many other foreign news agencies and publications provide the comparative analysis of the gas potential of Turkmenistan and other countries recognised as the world’s energy superpowers quoting authoritative experts and emphasizing that the independent audit report announced this week strengthens the guarantees of supplies to the pipelines exporting Turkmen natural gas to world markets and, moreover, will boost the implementation of new energy projects initiated by Turkmenistan.

The Trend News Agency describes in detail the progress of industrial production at the Southern Yoloten field which ranks among the ongoing most ambitious projects in Turkmenistan.

The content of nearly all comments evidences that Turkmenistan is extremely attractive for the international business community as the state with the tremendous energy potential which pursues the progressive, balanced and constructive foreign policy in the initiative of the leader of a new formation, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
