President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired an enlarged government meeting focusing on the development prospects of Avaza that had taken place after the presentation of the construction projects to be implemented in the national tourism zone.
The Vice Premiers, the heads of the Mejlis, ministries and departments, military and law enforcement agencies, velayat khyakimliks, higher educational institutions and media participated in the meeting. A focus of discussion was the construction of new facilities and buildings in the seaside resort which is rapidly developing on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea, including through the implementation of the construction projects presented on that day.
In accordance with the resolution of the Parliament, two new etraps in Turkmenbashi town were created given the increasing number of holidaymakers in the Avaza national tourism zone and the expansion of its territory.
During the meeting the President issued a number of resolutions authorizing to build about 10 new facilities in the tourism zone. These include high-class hotels for the ministries of the oil and gas, financial and economic, construction and other sectors, two parks, an aqua park and a multi-level parking garage. The vast woodlands, which will turn Avaza into a blooming garden, will be planted in the seaside resort. Wastewater treatment facilities will be built so as to ensure effective nature management and irrigation of green spaces.
The Turkmen leader instructed to hold the tenders for construction of a number of hotel complexes, sports facilities and a desalination unit which will allow meeting the growing needs of the tourism zone.
The President reprimanded Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism P. Taganov for the failure to properly perform his duties and the shortcomings in his work.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that consistent measures were taken to implement the Avaza project for the period till 2020. The cost of existing facilities and buildings and those under construction in Avaza is estimated at over US$ 2 billion. A number of hotels and recreational centres will have been built and put into operation by the end of the year, particularly by October.
The Turkmen leader noted that tax and customs benefits were given to local and foreign companies operating in the Avaza national tourism zone. These benefits are provided also to investors which provide funds to build recreational and entertainment centres and social and economic facilities and promote the hospitality and service industries. In this regard, the President emphasized that environmental requirements to design, construction and operation of facilities on the Caspian seashore should be met.
The International Tourism Congress, the first forum of this kind ever held in Turkmenistan, will take place in the Avaza national tourism zone in September 2013. This forum will provide the world’s major organisations and companies with an opportunity to get acquainted with the prospects for promoting international tourism in our country.
The programme of September events to be held in the country was considered during the meeting. The road safety campaign under the theme “Road Safety – Security of Our Life” will be held throughout the country from September 1 to 30. The Day of Knowledge and Students will be celebrated on September 1. A mass cycling marathon will take place in Ashgabat on that day with the view to promote healthy lifestyle principles and bring up the healthy younger generation.
