President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working visit to the construction site of the Altyn Asyr Turkmen Lake situated in the heart of the Karakum Desert to see the progress in implementing the project of the unique hydraulic complex.

Protection of the environment, including conservation and efficient management of water resources, are the key priorities of the policy of the Turkmen state in the new historical epoch. The world community is aware of the importance of addressing environmental issues which is essential to sustainable development of mankind today as never before.

Turkmenistan takes an active part in international cooperation and implementation of joint projects aimed at addressing urgent environmental challenges all humanity is facing, such as conservation and restoration of water and other natural resources, desertification, land degradation, global warming and climate change. Our country closely collaborates with the major international organisations in this sphere, particularly the United Nations, the European Union, the Global Environment Facility and others by offering constructive solutions to global environmental problems for the benefit of the present and future generations.
