President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov together with thousands citizens of Turkmenistan took part in the nationwide bicycle marathon.
Early in the morning Ashgabat bicyclists gathered together in the picturesque corner in the Turkmen capital - in the foothills of the Gindivar Mountains.
The President of Turkmenistan arrived there and gave the start to the bicycle marathon leading the cycle riders. The cabinet ministers and heads of ministries and departments of the country followed the Turkmen leader. The President of the Itera International Group of Companies and the Head of the Russian Cycling Federation I. Makarov, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital together with the group of famous sportsmen, World Champions and winners of the large international cycling competitions, participated in the marathon as the Guest of Honour.
Riding along the Chandybil and then Bitarap Avenues, the President of Turkmenistan together with the group of bicyclists led to the main square of the country.
Under the storm of applause of those gathered together on the main square, the participants of the marathon passed through the square.
Over 30,000 bicycle riders took part in the nationwide marathon, of them, by the most conservative estimates, 15,000 sportsmen in Ashgabat and 15,000 - in the regions.
Later, in norther region of the Turkmen capital, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the solemn ceremony of opening of the Motor Sports Centre of Turkmenistan and the Complex Championship in various motor sports.
The Turkmen leader considered the complex, conditions created there for holding competitions and training sportsmen and the other facilities.
The festivity continued with the ceremony of presenting the Alfa Romeo Grifone sports car. The owner of the HF Grifone Italian Company Fabrizio Tabaton handed over the documents for the car to the Turkmen leader. Thanking for the gift, the President of Turkmenistan noted that the new cars would contribute to increasing the professionalism of the Turkmen racers.
Then the President of Turkmenistan participated in the motor racing driving the Alfa Romeo car.
The contest started with the Alfa Romeo motor racing. According to the rules, the competitions were held in three stages, two cars participated in the ring event driving 2,340 metres in three rounds.
Demonstrating the high class of driving, the President of Turkmenistan took the decisive victory driving the distance in 1 minute 46,5 seconds.
Then the Volkicar motor racing and carting tournaments took place.
Upon completion of the competitions, the solemn ceremony of awarding the winners was organized. Speaking during the ceremony, the Head of the International Automobile Federation Jean Todt noted that the status of compliance to the international qualification level was assigned to the Motor Sports Centre of Turkmenistan and awarded the relevant certificate to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov under the storm of applause of those present.
Then Mr. Jean Todt awarded the prizes to the winners of the Alfa Romeo Guilietta event. The winer of this contest - President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov passed the main prize and the first place to his rival Evgeniy Galinni.
Volkan's Academy founder, designer and developer of the Volicar racing car Volkan Isik awarded the winners of the Volkicar tournament. Honorary Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Mr. Martin Marmi awarded cups and medals to the winners of the carting event.
