A preparatory meeting for the 18th session of the Coordinative Committee for Hydrometeorology and Pollution Monitoring of the Caspian Sea (CASPCOM) took place in Ashgabat. As was reported, Turkmenistan, an active member of the programmes on development of the equal dialogue on the Caspian Sea issues that was elected the CASPCOM Chair in 2013 initiated and organized the first in the CASPCOM history meeting of experts.

Within the two-day meeting, the experts from all five Caspian states, including Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan discussed the organizational and legal issues of the 18th session and the projects of the Agreement on cooperation between the Caspian states in the sphere of the Caspian Sea Hydrometeorology, the Memorandum on Mutual Understanding between the CASPCOM and the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea.

Turkmenistan also prepares for another important event - the International conference on energy safety to be held jointly with the OSCE. Last month, the meeting with the heads of the diplomatic missions of the countries, OSCE members and partners accredited in Turkmenistan took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The key areas of the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE were discussed within the framework of the bilateral meetings at the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan as well as in a number of ministries and public organizations held within the framework of the working visit of the OSCE representatives on democratic institutions and human rights to Turkmenistan.

The seminar organized jointly by the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) was dedicated to the important issues of implementation of the international standards into the national financial reporting system. According to the participants of the seminar held on August 19 - September 6, bringing the national accounting and auditing system in compliance with the requirements of the market economy as well as international standards is an important condition for entering to the world markets. According to the National Programme on Accounting and Auditing Reforms, the transition to the national accounting and auditing system that fully comply to the existing International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) will be held in Turkmenistan starting from January 1, 2014. Adoption of the Law of Turkmenistan "On accounting and financial reporting" was an important step in this area.

The Turkmen-Japanese business forum held in Ashgabat on August 29 testified to the interest of foreign partners in establishing the long-term cooperation with our country. The meeting agenda focused on the issues of further enhancement of the bilateral trade and economic and investment cooperation.
