President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia Armen Movsisian, who arrived in Ashgabat leading the high-level delegation to participate in a regular meeting of Turkmenistan-Armenia Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation.
Noting with satisfaction that the interstate dialogue built successfully in the bi- and multi-lateral formats - within the authoritative international organisations and institutions - had developed dynamically in recent years, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his guest confirmed the willingness of the two countries to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation that had the tremendous potential. In this regard, emphasis was placed on the critical role of the intergovernmental commission that had proven to be an effective tool to implement bilateral top-level and intergovernmental agreements.
Co-Chair of Turkmenistan-Armenia Intergovernmental Commission for economic cooperation Armen Movsisian informed the Turkmen leader of the agenda items of the fifth meeting of the Commission and expressed belief that the productive meeting in Ashgabat would give a new impetus to fulfil the designated tasks and contribute to strengthening traditional friendly relations between the Turkmen and Armenian peoples, identifying the most effective ways and mechanisms for further intensification of multifaceted cooperation built on a long and mutually beneficial basis.
An exchange of views on the current state and prospects for building up long-term fruitful partnership in a number of key areas, particularly in the trade and economic, fuel and energy, cultural and humanitarian spheres, took place in a constructive, businesslike atmosphere. Touching upon the issues relating to bilateral economic relations, the President of Turkmenistan and the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia focused on existing ample opportunities to increase trade between the two countries given the keen mutual interest and complementarity of national economies.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Turkmenistan V. Badalian attended the meeting.
