Evaluating the results of the current year, the President noted that " the national economy has been developing rapidly in 2013, in accordance with the President's Programme. We have successfully begun this year with entering in the top ten countries by foreign direct investment.
The high growth rates were observed in 2013 in the oil and gas, construction, transport and communications, industrial and other sectors of the national economy. This has enabled us to significantly improve the social and living conditions of our people.
We pay sustained attention to the strengthening of social security of citizens. we steadily increase salaries, pensions, state benefits and scholarships. Many large plants and factories, industrial, social and cultural facilities have been built and put into operation this year.
I want to emphasize that about 2,000 facilities with a total value of over US$ 35 billion are currently under construction in Turkmenistan.
The capital of our sovereign Motherland - Ashgabat - grows and beautifies with every passing day. In 2013, our capital was inscribed on Guinness World Records as the city with the world's highest concentration of buildings faced with white marble. The Day of Ashgabat, which will be celebrated every year on May 25, was established.
We are preparing for the V Asian Games, which will be held in Ashgabat in 2017. The Olympic Village in the capital is currently under construction. The presentation of the Flag of the Olympic Council of Asia to Ashgabat was a major event in the life of our country and people.
This year has been fruitful for our neutral state in the field of international cooperation. The position of independent Turkmenistan in the international system of coordinates is strengthening and becoming more important. In 2013, our country has been elected a Vice-President of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly and a Vice-President of the UN Economic Commission for Europe. This year, Turkmenistan has been elected for the first time a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for 2013-2017, which is a very encouraging fact for our people.
The year 2014 will be marked by another significant event for the Turkmen people and in the spiritual and cultural life of the world. we will be widely celebrating the 290th birthday anniversary of the great Turkmen poet and thinker, an outstanding man of letters Magtymguly Fraghi, whose creative work belongs to all humanity, at the international level next year.
