The first session of the Parliament of Turkmenistan took place with the participation of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the Ruhiyet Palace. Dwelling on election monitoring, the Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda reported that 99 foreign observers and experts representing the Observer Mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the United Nations Department of Political Affairs and the members of the delegation of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly conducted monitoring at all the stages of the election campaign in Turkmenistan. About 2,500 national observers representing the political parties, public organisations and associations monitored all the stages of the electoral process.
Commenting on the report on the work done by the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Turkmenistan the members of the Credentials Committee should be elected to confirm the authority of newly elected deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.
After reviewing the membership of the above-mentioned Committee, the parliamentarians unanimously approved it.
Chairperson of the Credentials Committee M. Yazmuhammedova reported on the results of the work done by the Committee. The Credentials Committee used the documents provided by the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan to confirm the authority of newly elected deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan of the fifth convocation.
In conclusion, the Chairperson of the Credentials Committee reported that the Committee had drafted the Resolution of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan on the recognition of the authority of newly elected deputies of the Parliament in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Turkmenistan and Article 11 of the Law on the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. The draft Resolution was adopted unanimously by the parliamentarians.
