President of Turkmenistan receives President of the Olympic Council of Asia

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah.

Heartily greeting the Turkmen leader, the guest expressed his gratitude for the opportunity of a personal meeting, emphasizing the keen interest of the Olympic Council of Asia in building up effective cooperation with Turkmenistan that was known worldwide for the progressive sport policy.

Greeting the President of the Olympic Council of Asia, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to high humanistic ideals of the Olympic movement and expressed belief that traditional cooperation with the OCA that contributes to building up fruitful regional and international sport partnership would further develop.

During the meeting the President of Turkmenistan and the President of the Olympic Council of Asia exchanged views on bilateral relations, noting that there existed ample opportunities to further intensify them. In this context, Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah expressed his sincere admiration for the impressive achievements Turkmenistan had gained in promoting sports and physical culture and developing modern sports infrastructure.

A focus of talks was the preparations for the V Asian Indoors and Martial Arts Games, which will take place in Ashgabat in 2017. The prestigious competitions will be held in the arenas of the Olympic Village including over 30 sports facilities that are currently under construction in the Turkmen capital. The most favourable conditions will be created there for athletes and spectators and specialists engaged in tournament planning and service.

Expressing his immense gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for paying enormous attention to the preparations for the 2017 Asian Games and the construction of the Olympic Village, the President of the Olympic Council of Asia highly evaluated the scale of the project of the region's largest sports complex being built in full compliance with the regulations of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia and highest international standards. Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah noted that the organisation of the large-scale sporting event, such as the V Asian Games, in Ashgabat, would certainly enhance the international prestige of Turkmenistan and contribute to promoting sports all over the world.
