As was reported, the construction of the new international airport started in January 2013 in accordance with the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan. Today, the Turkmen leader has visited the construction site of the new airport. The Vice Premiers, the high-ranking officials of the Turkmenhowayollary State National Service and the Ashgabat Khyakim greeted the President at the venue.

The stands with the draft designs and models that gave the pictorial presentation of future facilities were installed in the hall of the small terminal building, which will temporarily serve passengers. These include the draft designs of three terminals – passenger, VIP and cargo terminals and the office building of the Turkmenhowayollary State National Service. The complex includes the VIP building, where the conditions conducive to receiving distinguished guests and holding meetings and conferences are created. The cargo terminal is designed to handle 200,000 tons of goods annually and has a centralized fuelling station for fuelling aircrafts and hangars for servicing aircrafts and helicopters.

After considering the draft designs, the President provided specific comments and recommendations on them, noting that the new airport in Ashgabat must be supplied with state-of-the-art equipment and comply with the highest international standards in all respects. In this regard, the President instructed that a logistics centre should be opened in the small passenger terminal building after completing the construction of the international airport. The logistics centre will transport, store, distribute goods and provide information and legal support to flows of goods delivered by aircrafts to the new cargo terminal.

The President instructed that the appropriate measures should be taken to carry out capital repair and reconstruction of transport infrastructure, including construction of road junctions and engineering networks, in compliance with international standards. The Turkmen leader focused on the critical role of the new international airport in building a modern transcontinental transit transport system.

The President of Turkmenistan wished those present every success in their work and left the construction site.
