President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held an enlarged meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. The meeting agenda focused on the preparations for the celebrations in honour of the 290th birthday anniversary of the great poet and thinker Magtymguly Fraghi. The velayat khyakims, the deputy khyakims for culture of the velayats, etraps and towns, the heads of the mass media and research institutes were invited to attend the meeting.

The Vice Premiers presented the reports informing the Turkmen leader on the progress in preparing the plan of the celebrations in honour of the 290th birthday anniversary of Magtymguly Fraghi. The anniversary celebrations include the events, which will take place in our country and abroad. These are the presentations of the new collected verses of the Turkmen poet translated in foreign languages, conferences, exhibitions, performances of Turkmen cultural and art workers, among others held in countries of the Americas, Europe and Asia.

The presentation of the collected verses of the Turkmen classical poet first published in the English language will be held in Ashgabat. Most festive events will take place in May to mark the Day of Revival, Unity and Magtymguly's Poetry - the national holiday solemnly and widely celebrated in our country.

The plan of the celebrations in honour of the 290th birthday anniversary of Magtymguly Fraghi included the international science conference "Magtymguly Fraghi and Universal Cultural Values". The Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Culture and the Balkan Velayat Khyakimlik are responsible for organising and holding the forum on May 14-16.

The arrangements for a trip of the Turkmen delegation consisting of scientists and cultural and art workers to Golestan Province of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the eve the international science conference are being made.

The festival of poetry, folklore and culture will take place in Gerkez village - the homeland of the great Turkmen classical poet. Following the tradition, numerous admirers of the talent of the 'singer of the human soul' - scientists, cultural and art workers, writers, folk singers and musicians - will gather together in the picturesque mountain settlement.

The plan of the anniversary celebrations includes the theatrical performances under the title My Dreams About A Sovereign State! that will take place at the monument to Magtymguly Fraghi in the Turkmen capital on the avenue named after the outstanding poet. The celebrations will be held at the monuments to Magtymguly Fraghi in all the administrative centres of the regions of the country. Literary evenings will take place in the Ylham Park in Ashgabat. A gala concert, the programme of which will be composed of the songs based on Magtymguly's poems and literary dedications to the outstanding representative of Turkmen classical literature, will be performed at Maslahat Kosgi Palace. The theatrical productions dedicated to the poet's birthday anniversary include the play Magtymguly Fraghi staged at Alp Arslan Turkmen National Youth Theatre and the opera Magtymguly staged at Magtymguly Turkmen National Music and Drama Theatre that will be performed in all the regions of our country.

The Turkmenistan State Committee for Television, Radio and Cinematography is preparing the premiere of the film Magtymguly, a cycle of TV programmes about the life and creative work of the poet and philosopher and the events to be held in his honour in foreign countries. These programmes will be broadcast regularly on the national television channels and the new radio productions - on the radio channels.

The Turkmen State Publishing Service is preparing a series of new publications on the life and philosophical and literary heritage of Magtymguly Fraghi to mark the anniversary celebrations. Magtymguly's verses translated in cooperation with Turkmen and foreign translators are published Turkish, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Uzbek and Karakalpak. The work on translation of Magtymguly's verses in 15 languages, including English, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Belarusian, Kazakh, Ukrainian, Armenian, Urdu and other languages continues. The collected research works and monographs about Magtymguly, the epoch which he lived in, his philosophical views, the art style are being prepared for publication.

It was also noted that the international organisation TURKSOY declared the year 2014 the Year of Magtymguly Fraghi. The opening ceremony of the anniversary year will take place in Ankara on February 5. It is planned to hold a number of cultural actions dedicated to Magtymguly in cooperation with TURKSOY in the Turkic-speaking countries this year. The closing ceremony of the anniversary year will be held in Ashgabat in December.

An exhibition of the manuscripts of Magtymguly kept in the depositories of the State Institute of Oriental Studies in St. Petersburg will be arranged at the well-known research institute in April 2014.

The Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov delivered a speech during the enlarged government meeting. The President said that the 290th birthday anniversary of the renowned philosopher, great philosopher and classical poet of the East Magtymguly Fraghi would be celebrated solemnly and widely throughout the country and at the international level. The President said that the classical poet, who is the national pride of the Turkmen people, was highly revered all over the world, noting that the main celebrations in honour of the poet's birthday anniversary would take place in May.

The Turkmen leader gave specific instructions to the Vice Premiers. In particular, the President instructed that receptions would be organized and conferences and exhibitions dedicated to the life and creative work of the Turkmen classic poet would be held. The building of a museum and a memorial complex will be built in Gerkez village in Magtymguly Etrap to mark the birthday anniversary of the great thinker. In this regard, the President instructed that the heads of the ministries and departments concerned would explore the possibilities to fund the construction projects.
