Population of mountainous settlements of Magtymguly etrap in Balkan province welcomed with particular pride the joyful news that on the instruction of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Memorial complex devoted to the outstanding poet and thinker of the 18th century will be constructed in Gerkez – native village of Magtymguly Fragi. Solemnities in honor of the poet are organized annually in this settlement and presently, the local population prepare for welcome of the guests, which will come here in the days of celebration of his 290th anniversary.
“Visiting card” of Gerkez village is the museum of Magtymguly, which exhibits reproduce the spirit of period the poet lived in. first of all, these are ancient handwritten books, souvenir and jewelry articles delivered by the poet, who was also skillful jeweler, from other countries and created by his own hands. They form the foundation of exposition and excite invariable interest of visitors, which arrive here from all parts of our country, near and far abroad.
In the year, when entire country prepares to celebrate solemnly the jubilee of the poet, the number of guests increases day by day. Hospitable Gerkez surrounded from all sides with gardens and magnificent mountains, always welcome dear guests with bread and salt, confirming the prophetic lines of their great fellow-villager: “Here, the brotherhood is custom and friendship – the law”.
