The inaugural ceremony of the re-elected President of Turkmenistan took place two years ago, on February 17, 2012.

Two years that past since that remarkable date were rich in a number of grandiose deeds, important events, significant achievements, hard work, and dynamic creativity. Though, it is difficult to specify the most remarkable results in this impressive panorama, we will try to emphasize the main landmarks of the huge and versatile work done within the period.

First of all, it is important to mention about the successes achieved in the foreign policy of Turkmenistan. Among them are the large-scale events taken place within the framework of the presidency of Turkmenistan in the CIS in 2012.

Within the period, Turkmenistan was elected a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council for 2013-2015, the Vice-Chair of the UN European Economic Commission for 2013-2015, was elected for the first time a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for 2013-2017, became a member of the International Organization for Migration. Moreover, in 2013, Turkmenistan was elected a Vice-President of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Chair of the Coordination Committee for hydrometeorology and pollution monitoring of the Caspian Sea.

A number of representative multisided meetings, including high-level international conferences were held in Ashgabat in 2012-2013. A bright event in 2013 was the organization of the WHO European Ministerial Conference on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases in Ashgabat.

The volume of investments into the national economy increased eight times, including foreign investments - 8.6 times, within the last years. The growth of investments in 2013 made up 7.1 percent as compared to 2012. According to the World Investment Report for 2012 released by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Turkmenistan ranks among the top ten countries in the foreign direct investment (FDI) index - that is 15.6 percent of the country’s GDP.

In 2012, the World Bank classified Turkmenistan as the country with an upper middle-income. The decision was taken based on the statistical data demonstrating the stable and dynamic growth of the Turkmen national economy.

Summing up the year of 2013, the volume of the foreign-trade turnover made up over US$ 34.9 billion that is 125.9 percent as compared to the year of 2012.

In 2012, for the first time in the years of independence, the record number of the objects of the system of education, in particular 36 secondary schools and 48 kindergartens, the Turkmen State Institute of Oil and Gas and the Turkmen State Architectural and Construction Institute was put into operation.

Twenty billion US dollars were allocated for improvement of the material and technical basis of the Turkmen science.

It is impossible to mention all industrial facilities put into operation within the period. A number of industrial objects amounted to over ten billion US dollars will be opened in the nearest future.

The construction of the Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan - India gas pipeline and the 800-kilometre East - West gas pipeline is continued.

One of the most important projects in the transport and communication sphere is creation of the North - South transport corridor that will become 'a bridge' between the Europe and Asia. The Turkmen - Kazakh section of this international railway was put into operation in May, 2013. The project on construction of the Atamyrat - Ymamnazar - Andhoy section of the Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Tajikistan railway was launched in June, 2013. Construction of the new International sea port in Turkmenbashi started in August, 2013. At the early beginning of the last year, the project on construction of the Ashgabat International Airport was launched.

Last year, 196 social facilities were put into operation within the framework of the Programme of the President of Turkmenistan for the improvement of the social and living conditions in settlements, villages, towns in etraps and entrap centres for the period till 2020 that is 46 objects more as compare to the year of 2012. The contest for the best etrap in the country was held in Turkmenistan in 2013 for the first time. According to the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan, one million US dollars were awarded to the winner - Ak Bugday Etrap in Ahal Velayat.

The government invests much money into construction of new medical institutions, sports and health-improvement centres, sanatoriums and resorts and supplying them with the state-of-the-art equipment.

The preparations for the 2017 Asian Games are of particular significance for development of the sports basis of the country and training Turkmen sportsmen. The competitions of such level will be held in Turkmenistan for the first time.

The elections of the deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan of the V convocation took place in the country in December, 2013. Two parties - the Democratic Party and the Party of Industrialists and Manufactures of Turkmenistan participated in the elections for the first time.

The specific nature of the reforms taken place in the modern epoch consists in that the implementation of the grandiose investment economic projects that has no analogues combines with the everyday life on strengthening all parts of the social protection, consistent democratization of the society based on improving its legal culture, succession of the national experience of the people's participation in the government of the state. This combination ensures the interrelation of all stags of the reforms guaranteeing the people the evolutional development towards the heights of progress and prosperity.
