President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, during which the current situation in key sectors of the national economy, the domestic and foreign policy activities of government agencies, a number of draft documents and other important domestic policy issues were considered.
The Vice Premiers presented the reports. It was noted that the preparations for a regular session of the Mejlis, during which a number of draft laws are to be considered, had been launched. A parliamentary session will take place on March 1. It was noted that the candidates, to whom the honorary title Ene Myahri will be conferred, and the candidates, to whom the Order Zenan Kalby instituted on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov will be awarded in honour of International Women's Day, had been nominated. The information on the preparations for a visit of a Turkmen delegation to Vienna, the Republic of Austria to participate in a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council from February 26 to March 1 was presented.
It was noted that the key aspects of the foreign policy of Turkmenistan included promotion of fruitful cooperation with the major international organisations and agencies, including the UN, OSCE, EU, among others. Our country that is a member of 43 international organisations is a signatory to 131 international conventions and other multilateral treaties and agreements.
This traditional cooperation has been built up and filled up with a new content in recent years. This is vividly evidenced by the fact that 171 delegations of international organisations visited Turkmenistan last year. 242 delegations of Turkmenistan visited foreign countries in the framework of cooperation with international organisations.
Focusing on constructive partnership with the OSCE, the Vice Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that the programme of the visit of the Turkmen delegation to Vienna included a number of bilateral meetings with the heads of the international organisations headquartered in the Austrian capital, the representatives of the EU and the Republic of Austria.
Commenting on the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that successfully promoting the effective dialogue in the bi- and multi-lateral formats, within the authoritative international organisations and agencies, Turkmenistan demonstrated a responsible and proactive approach to partnership and took active part in elaborating sustainable solutions to priority issues of regional and global security and sustainable development. It was noted that the preparations for the cotton sowing campaign had been launched and the areas to be sown with this technical crop were being tilled throughout the country.
The information on a new investment project of the chemical plant producing polyethylene and polypropylene in Kiyanly village to be implemented in the Caspian region was presented.
The reports focused on the preparations for the VIII Exhibition of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which will take place in Ashgabat from February 27 to March 1.
The report on the measures taken to enhance the capacity the cellular and fixed telephone networks in our country and introduce the additional communication services was presented. The Vice Premier reported that currently Altyn Asyr Closed Corporation renders cellular communications services to over 3.7 million subscribers. With the view to enhance the capacity of digital telephone exchanges of the Turkmentelekom National Telecommunication Company and Ashgabat telephone network, 60 automatic telephone exchanges will be put into operation.
The President signed the Resolution authorising the ministries, departments and khyakimliks to plant 3 millions of young deciduous, coniferous and fruit trees and grapes in the capital and its vicinity in 2014.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the Resolution on the Approval of the Regulations on public preschool children's institutions and public educational institutions.
The President expressed dissatisfaction with the activities of the State Committee for Sports and reprimanded the Chairman of the State Committee for Sports for the failure to manage the activities of the subdivisions and organize the work at sports schools. In this regard, the President of Turkmenistan informed of the decision to suspend the construction of sports facilities in the regions and signed the Resolution introducing the amendments to the national rural development programme. The President severely reprimanded B. Orazov for the negligent performance of his duties and serious shortcomings in his work and said if these shortcoming were eliminated as soon as possible, he would be dismissed.
The President signed the Resolution approving the procedures for the passage of heavy and oversized vehicles on motor roads.
