President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Secretary General of the Energy Charter Urban Rusnak.

Talks were held in a business-like and constructive atmosphere. The leader of Turkmenistan and the Secretary General of the Energy Charter noted that modern realities necessitated establishing close multifaceted partnership to ensure reliable energy transit on a global scale and increase investments in the development of Turkmenistan’s fuel and energy sector.

The sides agreed that the Energy Charter and its Secretariat would participate in the working groups under the leadership of Turkmenistan to draft and discuss the proposals on safe energy transit in the framework of the United Nations and that Turkmenistan as a full member of the Energy Charter would take an active part in the modernisation of the Energy Charter Process launched last year.

The issues relating to the development of the energy sector, in particular the development of electricity networks and electricity exports to neighbouring countries, particularly southwards - to Afghanistan, on whose stability and level of socio-economic development the situation in the region depended, were discussed during the meeting.
