President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated water industry workers, agricultural workers and all citizens of Turkmenistan on the national holiday "A Drop of Water - A Grain of Gold", which is celebrated in Turkmenistan each year on the first Sunday of April.

"Our ancestors, who very well knew the value of water and knew how to conserve it, compared every drop of water with a grain of gold," the Turkmen leader says in his congratulation message, citing the proverbs and sayings illustrating the reverent attitude of the Turkmen people to water as the source of life.

Other forefathers said that there is no life without water, there is no welfare without work and improved steadily their farming and irrigation techniques. This is evidenced by wells, kyariz, water storage reservoirs, canals, rivers, lakes and other water facilities built in great numbers in the Turkmen steppes, sands and mountain regions.

Even where there was no water, our ancestors invented the ways of extracting it, and therefore, today our people enhance their capacity to conserve water and use it efficiently, maintaining the age-old noble traditions. Water industry workers widely use water conservation technologies, scientific advances and best practices.

Drinking water plants and water treatment facilities built and put into operation in different regions of our sunny land evidence the reverent attitude of our people to water.

The work is currently accelerated in our country to increase the capacity of existing water storage reservoirs and build new ones, which will improve soil conditions in irrigated lands, increase access to drinking water and create the necessary reserves of water.

The construction of the largest hydraulic facility of the 21st century - the Turkmen Lake Altyn Asyr - is in full swing in the Karakum Desert. Discharging groundwater from the fields into the lake will allowed improving significantly soil conditions in the region, which, in its turn, will make it possible to increase crop yields and enrich the flora and fauna of the Karakum Desert.

0The President said: "Today, towns and villages throughout our country have turned into lush oases, and this is the most vivid evidence of the abundance of water and its efficient use. Beautiful fountains along the streets, avenues, in parks and squares, uninterrupted supply of water to our homes - all this is the priceless treasure of the Turkmen land. We plan to carry out more large-scale activities in the future to significantly improve social and living conditions of the people and optimize the work of the water sector of the country.

"Let waters in our rivers, lakes and springs bringing happiness and wellbeing to every each house and fertility to lands never dry up! Let the glorious achievements of our Motherland - independent neutral Turkmenistan increase!"
