Talks between the leaders of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Croatia

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Croatia Ivo Josipovic, who arrived in our country for a state visit, held talks in Ashgabat.

In the morning, the distinguished guest headed from his residence at the Oguzkent Hotel for the Oguzhan palace complex.

The President of Turkmenistan invited his Croatian counterpart to enter the Golden Hall, where they held one to one talks. The leaders of the two states exchanged views on a number of topical issues of regional and international politics. They expressed their support for global efforts to address the challenges of the modern world, such as energy and water efficiency, regional security.

The two leaders discussed a wide range of aspects of Turkmen-Croatian partnership. In this context, emphasis was placed on the important role of the Intergovernmental Turkmenistan-Croatia Commission for economic cooperation, bilateral consultations, business forums and enhancement of inter-parliamentary relations. The trade and economic, shipbuilding, transport and communications, energy, fuel and energy sectors, a number of industries, tourism and sports, agriculture and the humanitarian and cultural spheres were mentioned as priority areas for cooperation.



The President of Croatia invited the President of Turkmenistan to visit Croatia. The invitation was accepted. The dates of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.

Then the government delegations of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Croatia joined in the talks.

The ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place in Seljuk Han Hall in the presence of the leaders of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Croatia after the government talks had concluded.

The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Tourism between the State Committee for Tourism of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Croatia, the Programme of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia for 2014-2015, the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Culture between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Agreement on avoidance of double taxation with respect to income taxes between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Agreement on the Intergovernmental Turkmenistan-Croatia Commission for Economic Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Agreement on Economic Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Croatia were signed. The President of Turkmenistan and the President of the Republic of Croatia put their signatures to the Joint Statement to the applause of those present.

After the signing ceremony had concluded, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Ivo Josipovic gave a brief press conference in Bairam Han Hall.

The President of Turkmenistan noted that the talks had focused on the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation.


Dwelling upon energy transit to world markets, the Turkmen leader called for the development of multi-variant pipeline infrastructure and diversification of energy exports to meet the objective needs of the world economy. Speaking about trade and economic cooperation, the President of Turkmenistan emphasized that the two countries had the tremendous potential for partnership in these spheres.

The Turkmen leader said that he had invited the Croatian delegation to take part in the international conference on the role of transit transport corridors in ensuring international cooperation, which Ashgabat will be hosting in September. The Turkmen leader noted that the ways to build up humanitarian and cultural cooperation had been discussed during the bilateral talks.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan viewed Croatia as an important partner in the dialogue with the European Union, which has gained significant momentum in recent years and is an important aspect of the foreign policy strategy of the Turkmen state.

President of the Republic of Croatia Ivo Josipovic focused on the interest of Croatian companies in enhancing bilateral cooperation not only “in the traditional economic sectors, tourism and food industry, but also in culture, science and education”. President Ivo Josipovic said that Croatia had the profound expertise in shipbuilding, railway construction and mechanical engineering. The Croatian leader also emphasized the willingness of his country in enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy, transport and communications sectors.


After the press conference had concluded, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov cordially bade farewell to President Ivo Josipovic.

In the afternoon, the President of the Republic of Croatia attended the opening ceremony of Turkmenistan-Croatia Business Forum at the Mizan Business Centre. President Ivo Josipovic visited Gypjak, where he paid tribute to the memory of the first President of Turkmenistan and laid flowers to the Mausoleum, and visited the Mosque of Spirituality. Then the Croatian leader laid a wreath to the Monument of Independence of Turkmenistan. The distinguished guest visited the National Turkmen Carpet Museum.

The President of Turkmenistan gave an official reception in honour of the distinguished guest in the evening. The leaders delivered speeches at the official reception.
