President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired an enlarged meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, during which the current domestic policy issues were considered and a number of important documents were signed.
Opening the meeting, the President said that the national holidays - Constitution Day and the Day of Revival, Unity and Magtymguly's Poetry - were celebrated each year in our country on May 18.
In honour of the 22nd anniversary of the Constitution of independent Turkmenistan and the Day of Revival, Unity and Magtymguly's Poetry the President signed the decree to grant an amnesty to the persons convicted in the territory of Turkmenistan.
Focusing on the importance of implementing the constitutional reform in the country, the President noted that such a need had arisen a long time ago. The first stage of reforms was done in 2008. The Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the position of Plenipotentiary Representative for Human Rights should be introduced in our country and the powers of local governments should be expanded in the framework of the forthcoming reforms. The President said that particular attention should be given to the enhancement of the judicial protection of the rights and freedoms of individuals and citizens as well as the individual-state responsibility. The Turkmen leader signed the Decree on the establishment of the Constitutional Commission to improve the Constitution of Turkmenistan and the approval of its members.
The Vice Premiers presented the reports on the programmes of the celebrations to mark the Day of Revival, Unity and Magtymguly's Poetry, Ashgabat Day and Turkmen Carpet Day.
The President signed the Decree on the establishment of the International University of Humanities and Development and the Resolution on the Issues of the International University of Humanities and Development.
Emphasizing that further comprehensive modernization of the national education system would continue to be the focus of attention, the Turkmen leader gave specific instructions to the Vice Premier to enhance measures taken in the framework of the ongoing education reform to improve the system of learning of foreign languages.
Other domestic policy issues were considered and the decisions were adopted during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
