Turkmen-Turkish top-level talks in Ankara

Turkmen-Turkish top-level talks held in the framework of an official visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Turkey were a success. As was reported, the Turkmen leader arrived in Ankara yesterday afternoon.

In the morning President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov laid a wreath at the Mausoleum of the founder of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. The President of Turkmenistan laid a wreath at the monument to the great Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Fraghi in Turkmenistan Park in Dikmen Vadisi Park.


Then the President’s motorcade headed for the residence of the President of the Republic of Turkey.

President Abdullah Gul invited the honorary Turkmen guest to the office, where the two leaders held the one-to-one top-level talks. In a friendly, constructive and business-like atmosphere, the President of Turkmenistan and the President of the Republic of Turkey discussed a wide range of aspects of Turkmen-Turkish cooperation. They also exchanged views on a number of issues of regional and international politics.

The talks continued in the Great Hall of Cankaya Presidential Palace, involving the members of the government delegations of the two countries.

The ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place in the press conference hall of Cankaya Presidential Palace.


The Memorandum of Understanding between the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization (KOSGEB) of the Republic of Turkey, the Protocol on Cooperation between the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), the Agreement on Cooperation in Forestry and Meteorology between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey, the Agreement on Cooperation in Tourism between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey, the Minutes of the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmenistan-Turkey Commission for Economic Cooperation were signed in the presence of the two leaders.

To the applause of those present President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Abdullah Gul put their signatures to the Joint Communique between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey.

After concluding the signing ceremony, the leaders of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey gave a press conference.


Commenting on the outcomes of the talks, the Turkish leader said that the current state and prospects of Turkmen-Turkish relations had been discussed in details. The President of Turkey noted that the promising aspects of economic cooperation included the strengthening of contacts in the strategic fields, such as energy and transport. Noting that Turkmenistan and Turkey are two states and one nation, President Abdullah Gul said that the sides attached particular importance to the humanitarian component of bilateral relations. As was reported, Bodrum will be hosting the IV Summit Meeting of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States soon. In this regard, the President of Turkey thanked the President of Turkmenistan for accepting the invitation to participate in the summit.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the sides had expressed similar stances on various aspects of cooperation, particularly on maintenance of international peace, security and sustainable development. The Turkmen leader said that the sides had exchanged views on the ways to enhance cooperation to apply high technology in the oil and gas, construction, energy, transport and communication sectors. A focus of the talks was interaction in the spheres of science and education.


The President of Turkmenistan noted that the trading turnover between the two countries in 2013 amounted to 4.746 billion U.S. dollars. This figure has been steadily growing in recent years.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the sides had agreed to facilitate participation of representatives of Turkmenistan and Turkey in various cultural events, festivals and forums and strengthen fruitful relations in this sphere.

In the afternoon, the Turkmen leader headed for the reception house of the Prime Minister of Turkey, where President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. During the meeting the Turkmen leader and the Prime Minister of Turkey discussed topical aspects of Turkmen-Turkish cooperation in the context of the outcomes of the top-level talks and the prospects for further enhancing mutually beneficial partnership, focusing on ample opportunities to diversify it.

Then the Turkmen leader’s motorcade headed for the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, where the President of Turkmenistan had a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Turkey Cemil Cicek. The President of Turkmenistan and the Speaker of the Parliament of Turkey confirmed that the two countries were committed to consistently building up partnership and called for the strengthening of bilateral relations at the parliamentary level.


In the evening, President of Turkey Abdullah Gul gave an official reception in honour of the distinguished Turkmen guest at Cankaya Presidential Palace, during which the two leaders exchanged speeches.

In the solemn atmosphere, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov presents Magtumguly International Award and a certificate to President of Turkey Abdullah Gul. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov continues his official visit to the Republic of Turkey.
