President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who was visiting Bodrum as a guest of honour to the IV Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States, took part in tripartite talks with President of the Republic of Turkey Abdullah Gul and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
Exchanging views, the sides unanimously called for promoting trade and economic cooperation, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in the energy, transport and communication sectors. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of building up traditional humanitarian ties, particularly in the spheres of education, science and culture. The sides agreed to maintain regular contacts at the top level as well as through holding intergovernmental consultations, exchanging delegations, organizing and holding joint forums. The leaders of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey confirmed their commitment to employing the joint potential of cooperation based on good neighbourliness, equality and mutual trust for the benefit of their peoples, in the name of global prosperity.
Dwelling upon the aspects of energy cooperation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that in the first place, Turkmenistan was proposing to develop a new international legal mechanism to ensure energy security.
In this context, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that, in accordance with the decisions of the United Nations, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey were to form a joint international expert group, which will start developing a new mechanism to ensure energy security.
In this context, the leader of Turkmenistan said that in accordance with the Resolution of the UN General Assembly, Ashgabat would be hosting an international expert meeting on these issues in December 2014. Taking the opportunity, the President of Turkmenistan invited the delegations of Azerbaijan and Turkey to participate in the forum, expressing belief that the two fraternal states would support the initiatives put forward by our country. The Turkmen leader also noted the importance of building an international legal framework for energy transit.
With the view to enrich the content of Turkmen-Azerbaijani-Turkish cooperation in the transport sector and promote discussion of specific aspects of cooperation, the Turkmen leader proposed to hold a trilateral meeting at the level of transport ministers of the three countries in the near future. Also, the Turkmen leader invited the delegations of Azerbaijan and Turkey to participate in the International Conference on Cooperation in Transport, which will be held in Ashgabat on September 3-4.
