Talks between President of Turkmenistan and Prime Minister of Malaysia

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of Malaysia Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, who arrived in our country for an official visit, held talks in Ashgabat.

In the morning, the distinguished guest headed from his residence at luxury Yyldyz Hotel to Oguzhan Presidential palace complex. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov greeted Prime Minister of Malaysia Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak at the entrance to the palace complex. The Turkmen leader and the head of the Government of Malaysia entered Oguzhan Hall, where the official welcoming ceremony took place.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited Prime Minister Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak to enter the Golden Hall, where they held the one-to-one talks.

The sides discussed the current state and prospects of Turkmen-Malaysian cooperation. Focusing on the existing ample opportunities to intensify effective partnership in various fields, the President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia dwelt upon the aspects of cooperation in the fuel and energy sector. Calling for fostering the constructive political dialogue and building up trade and economic relations, the Turkmen leader and the head of the Government of Malaysia emphasized the importance of promoting humanitarian and cultural contacts.

The sides also exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest.

The Prime Minister of Malaysia invited the President of Turkmenistan to pay a return visit to Malaysia. The invitation was accepted with gratitude. The dates of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.

After the talks had concluded, the ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place in Seljuk Han Hall.

To the applause of those present the President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia put their signatures to the Joint Communique of the Turkmen-Malaysian Communique.

The Protocol on the Authorities of Joint Turkmenistan-Malaysia Trade Committee between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of Malaysia, the Agreement on Cooperation in Culture between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of Malaysia, the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Higher Education between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of Malaysia and the Memorandum on Long-Term Cooperation in Oil and Gas Industry were signed.

After the signing ceremony had concluded, the President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia headed to Bairam Han Hall, where they gave a press conference.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized the effectiveness of the talks. The two countries confirmed their commitment to strengthening peace and sustainable development and creating an atmosphere of mutual confidence and understanding in Central Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.

The Turkmen leader noted that the talks had spotlighted the readiness of Turkmenistan and Malaysia to provide overall support to cooperation in the trade, economic and investment sectors. The establishment of the Intergovernmental Commission for economic cooperation and the Business Council could be a critical component of interaction. Partnership in the energy, communications, banking, construction, oil and gas refining, chemical, high technology, tourism and other industries has the tremendous potential. An excellent example of cooperation is the successful operation of Malaysia’s Petronas Charigali in Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen leader emphasized that the talks had focused on cooperation in the humanitarian and cultural spheres. The sides had agreed to enhance cooperation in the spheres of science and education between higher educational institutions and the Academies of Sciences.

The Malaysian Prime Minister emphasized the fruitfulness of the bilateral talks. The sides had agreed to promote partnership in the financial and banking sector and further cooperation in the spheres of science and education. The Prime Minister of Malaysia said that the sides had exchanged views on the ways to promote trade cooperation. Emphasis was put on the opportunities to expand activities of Malaysia’s Petronas in Turkmenistan.

Expressing support for the promotion of Turkmen-Malaysian cooperation in the construction, banking, chemical and communications sectors, the distinguished guest noted that Malaysian companies have a profound expertise in these fields. The Prime Minister of Malaysia focused on the existing opportunities to build up cooperation in tourism.

In the afternoon, Prime Minister of Malaysia Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak laid flowers to the Monument to the Constitution of Turkmenistan. The head of the Government of Malaysia planted a young tree as a symbol of friendship between the two countries and peoples.

In the evening, the Turkmen leader gave an official reception in honour of the distinguished guest. The President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia exchanged speeches during the reception. Then the Prime Minister of Malaysia headed for Ashgabat International Airport and left for Malaysia.

On the same day the spouse of the Prime Minister of Malaysia Ms. Rosmah Mansor, who accompanied Prime Minister of Malaysia during the visit, visited landmarks of Ashgabat and one of the children’s recreational centres in Geokdere.
