President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Korea Park Geun-hye, who is arriving in our country for a state visit, will hold talks in the Turkmen capital on June 20.
The milestones in the history of bilateral relations include the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Turkmenistan in 2008 and the first state visit of President of of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the friendly country in November of the same year which resulted in signing bilateral documents which strengthened the legal regulatory framework between the two countries. In 2013, Turkmenistan opened the Embassy in Seoul, the capital of South Korea which significantly contributed to building up traditional partnership on a long-term mutually beneficial basis.
At the present stage of development, the two countries show greater determination to bring long-term partnership up to a qualitatively new level and make it more practical and fruitful given the existing positive experience of cooperation and tremendous potential.
The active participation of the world-renowned companies from South Korea in implementing the ambitious projects of national and international significance vividly evidences the interest and willingness of the two countries to significantly expand traditional cooperation that has developed rapidly in recent years.
The Resolution issued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov a week ago approving the membership of the Intergovernmental Turkmenistan-Korea Commission for trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation on the Turkmen side with the view to promote partnership between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea illustrates the profound importance that Turkmenistan attaches to this partnership. The Vice Premier in charge of the oil and gas industry was appointed as the Chairman of the Intergovernmental Commission on the Turkmen side.
The Turkmen state that seeks to enhance international cooperation and adopt best international practices to ensure sustainable development is interested in fostering the mutually advantageous dialogue with the Republic of Korea that has the latest industrial designs and scientific advances. In its turn, the promising Turkmen market increasingly attracts South Korea’s big business as illustrated by a strong interest of the major South Korean companies thoroughly exploring the possibilities for cooperation in a number of strategic fields, including the oil and gas, oil refining, power and construction industries. The priority spheres also include trade, ecology, education, textile industry, transport, communications and many other sectors, in which partnership is deemed most effective given the complementarity of the two dynamically developing economies.
Along with the economic aspect, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea pay particular attention to the cultural and humanitarian dialogue and traditional contacts that directly contribute to mutual understanding between the fraternal peoples. An important role in this process is assigned to the Association of Friendship between the Republic of Korea and Central Asia that organizes major cultural events, including festivals, art forums, exhibitions, exchange of creative delegations, among others on a regular basis.
