President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergey Lebedev, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital to take part in the International Conference on Migration and Stateless Persons.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his guest exchanged their views on the prospects of cooperation within the CIS, which is based on the old ties of friendship and good-neighbourly relations that unite peoples of the CIS countries. According to the Turkmen leader, Turkmenistan as an associated member of the Commonwealth of Independent States would continue to support comprehensive enhancement of fruitful economic, cultural and humanitarian relations on the territory of the CIS states at the bilateral and multilateral level as well.
During the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States discussed the preparations for a regular meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of Governments scheduled for November, 2014 in Ashgabat. The parties also focused on the School Sports Festival among CIS member-states to be held in Avaza on the Caspian coast in September. S. Lebedev noted that this initiative put forward by the President of Turkmenistan was widely supported by the CIS member-states.
