President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who arrived in Ashgabat to attend the regular meeting of the Steering Committee of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project.
Thanking for the opportunity to discuss a wide range of aspects of interstate cooperation during a personal meeting, the guest conveyed the warm greetings on behalf of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity to the Turkmen people. Taking the opportunity, Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed his sincere admiration for the architectural look of Ashgabat that becomes more beautiful with every passing year and the achievements that dynamically developing Turkmenistan had gained through the ambitious social and economic reforms under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan.
Thanking for the kind words, the Turkmen leader expressed his best wishes to the leadership of the neighbouring country that Turkmenistan is bound with by longstanding friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation built on an equal basis. It was emphasized that pursuing the open door policy, our country was seeking to enhance economic, trade and cultural relations with all countries, particularly with the neighbours that our country partnered with in implementing the major projects of regional and interregional significance, particularly the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project.
Highly evaluating the international initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to build a modern architecture of global energy security, the guest expressed particular gratitude for hosting the regular meetings of the TAPI Steering Committee and the TAPI Technical Working Group in Ashgabat and involving the representatives of the international business community, in particular major foreign companies and potential investors, in building the new energy bridge.
Placing emphasis on the relevance and timeliness of the construction of the transcontinental TAPI gas pipeline, Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi noted that Pakistan was keenly interested in the earliest completion of construction of the gas pipeline, which will certainly build up constructive international cooperation in the gas sector.
Wishing every success in the work of the TAPI Steering Committee, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the pipeline, which will ensure long-term exports of Turkmenistan’s natural gas to Southeast Asia in the near future, was another step to implement the energy strategy of Turkmenistan aimed at diversifying energy transit to world markets.
The Turkmen leader noted that the new energy bridge was to bring economic benefits to the participating countries, and its significance, however, was much broader. Obviously, we can already speak about the effective consolidating and stabilizing impact of the TAPI Project that is capable of exerting positive influence on the situation in Central and South Asia and the region as a whole and give additional stability to the system of political and economic relations on the continent.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Turkmenistan Tassaduq Hussain attended the meeting.
