President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor has arrived in Turkmenistan for an official visit today.
In the morning, the distinguished guest arrived at the Oguzhan Presidential Palace Complex, where the leaders of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Slovenia held the one-to-one talks in the Golden Hall.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Borut Pahor discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest. Focusing on the multifaceted potential and prospects for effective cooperation existing in the trade and economic sectors, the leaders of Turkmenistan and Slovenia called for the encouragement of humanitarian and cultural contacts. The sides exchanged views on a number of topical issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest.
Then the government delegations of the two countries joined in the talks that were held in Gorkut Ata Hall.
President Borut Pahor invited President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to pay an official visit to the Republic of Slovenia. This invitation was accepted with gratitude.
The dates of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
The ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place in Seljuk Hall.
The Agreement on Cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Slovenia, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, the Agreement on Economic Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia were signed.
To the applause of those present, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor put their signatures to the Joint Communique.
The list of bilateral documents included the Memorandum of Understanding between the Turkmentelekom State Company of the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan and Iskratel, Telekomunikacijski sistemi, doo, Kranj (Slovenia). The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan. Then the leaders of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Slovenia gave a press conference in Bairam Han Hall.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the sides paid special attention to the international issues, such as the strengthening of peace, sustainable development and security. The leader of Turkmenistan focused on the coincidence or similarity of the stances of Turkmenistan and Slovenia on many international issues. The sides also reaffirmed the importance of partnership within the major international organisations, particularly the UN and the OSCE. In this context, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the agreement had been reached with President Borut Pahor on regular bilateral consultations on foreign policy cooperation.
The Turkmen leader noted that the talks spotlighted the willingness of Turkmenistan and Slovenia to cooperate in achieving global energy security. In this regard, Turkmenistan views Slovenia as a promising partner and stands ready to start concrete negotiations on the prospects for cooperation in bilateral format as well as within long-term energy cooperation between Turkmenistan and Europe.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov specified the energy sector, communications, tourism, medicine, pharmaceuticals industry, food industry and agriculture as the especially promising areas for cooperation. The Turkmen leader also noted that there were ample opportunities to intensify partnership in the transport sector in the context of development of transit transport corridors between Asia and Europe on the east-west direction.
The opportunities for Turkmen-Slovenian cooperation in education and science will be explored.
Touching upon the aspects of bilateral relations, the Turkmen leader said that Turkmenistan viewed Slovenia as an important partner in terms of intensification of relations with the EU.
President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor noted that the sides agreed to establish an intergovernmental commission that would work towards promoting partnerships. President Borut Pahor confirmed the keen interest and willingness of Slovenia’s business circles to cooperate with our country.
President Borut Pahor expressed belief that the top-level talks in Ashgabat would contribute to strengthening bilateral relations, including within the dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
In the afternoon, the President of the Republic of Slovenia headed to Gypjak, where he paid tribute to the first President of Turkmenistan, laid flowers to the mausoleum and visited Turkmenbashi Mosque of Spirituality.
The distinguished guest laid flowers at the Monument of Turkmenistan Independence located in the south of Ashgabat. Following a good tradition, the Slovenian leader planted a young tree on the Alley of Guests of Honour. The President of the Republic of Slovenia visited the National Turkmen Carpet Museum on that day.
In the evening, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave an official reception in honour of the distinguished guest. The two leaders exchanged speeches during the official reception.
