President of Turkmenistan receives Minister of Education of the Republic of Turkey

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to Balkan Velayat, received Minister of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Nabi Avci.

Expressing gratitude for giving the opportunity to discuss certain aspects of Turkmen-Turkish cooperation in the education sector, the guest conveyed warm greetings on behalf of President-elect of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who expressed the best wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity and new achievements on the path of great accomplishments in the epoch of might and happiness to the people of Turkmenistan.

Focusing on the contribution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to fostering the interstate dialogue, which has been brought to new level of development in recent years, Mr. Nabi Avci said that Turkey highly evaluated and fully supported the multifaceted activities of the Turkmen leader and the ambitious reforms and drastic transformations he was implementing that had given a powerful impetus to boost social and economic development of Turkmenistan and enhance its international prestige.

Thanking for the kind words, the President expressed his best wishes to President-elect Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the people of the friendly country that Turkmenistan was bound by age-old cultural and historical affinities and the mutual willingness to diversify traditional partnership in various fields. In this regard, the President of Turkmenistan noted that the recent telephone conversation with the President-elect of Turkey focused on intensification of cooperation between the two countries in the education sector.

In this context, the President emphasized that Turkmenistan was taking consistent efforts to reform the education sector to meet modern requirements as well as effective measures to introduce the education system meeting the highest international standards. The Turkmen leader noted that further measures to promote education cooperation were discussed during the telephone conversation with Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The President of Turkmenistan, noted that effective relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey existed in all areas, including in the abovementioned sector. Vivid evidence for fruitful cooperation is the International Turkmen-Turkish University in Ashgabat. The Turkmen leader noted that the construction of the building complex of this higher educational institution was in full swing in Ashgabat and this complex would include a Turkmen-Turkish school.

Thus, the complex of educational institutions, which will vividly symbolize fruitful bilateral cooperation in this important sphere and contribute to enhancing it, will spring up in that district of Ashgabat.

Discussing the prospects for widening fruitful contacts between the two countries in the education sector, the modernisation of which the two countries regarded as of paramount importance, the Turkmen leader and his guest expressed belief that bilateral agreements coupled with ongoing task-oriented activities under the major joint projects would directly contribute to the progressive development of Turkmen-Turkish dialogue built on the basis of long-standing friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation. Emphasis was placed on the importance of continuing the practice of the exchange of experience and mutual visits and study tours as well as establishing direct contacts between the major educational and research centres of Turkmenistan and Turkey.

Emphasizing that that he was very happy to visit the historic homeland and visit the Avaza national tourism zone, the guest noted that grandiose changes were taking place in that region of Turkmenistan. Touching upon the celebrations in honour of the 290th birth anniversary of Magtymguly Fraghi, Mr. Nabi Avci noted that the large-scale anniversary festivities had been held at the monument to the great Turkmen poet and outstanding thinker of the East in Ankara this year. The guest said that these festivities vividly evinced that age-old relations between the peoples of Turkmenistan and Turkey were being filled with new content in the present historical epoch.

The Minister of Education of Turkey conveyed the invitation on behalf of President-elect Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the Turkmen leader to attend the inauguration ceremony and the celebrations to mark his assumption of office, which will be held on August 28.

The Turkmen leader accepted the invitation with gratitude and expressed belief that Turkmen-Turkish cooperation would successfully develop in all spheres. In this context, the Turkmen leader focused with satisfaction on the worthy contribution of Turkish businessmen to enhancing the economic strength of our country.

In conclusion, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Minister of Education of the Republic of Turkey Nabi Avci exchanged the good wishes and expressed belief that traditional relations of friendship and fruitful cooperation between the two brotherly countries and peoples would continue to develop dynamically and be filled with new content.

The signing ceremony of the Agreement on Cooperation in Education between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey took place after the meeting. This event vividly evidenced the willingness of the two states to bring bilateral cooperation in this important field to a higher level.
