President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the plant, which will produce gasoline from natural gas, in Ovadandepe.

The car of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stopped at the construction site. Then the Turkmen leader moved to the conference hall where the ceremony participants and guests, including the cabinet ministers, deputies of Mejlis, heads of ministries and departments, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan and foreign companies and Turkmen and foreign media representatives, had gathered together. All of them greeted the leader of Turkmenistan with standing ovation.

Addressing those present, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized the crucial importance of this event in the life of the Turkmen state.

The Turkmen leader said that the new branch of Turkmenistan’s oil and gas sector – the gas chemical industry – was developing intensively through applying innovative technologies and identified a number of priority areas in the gas processing industry. The first area is the production of polyethylene and polypropylene through processing propane ethane and other components of natural gas.

The second area is the processing of methane that is a component of natural gas and used to produce gasoline and diesel fuel. In addition, lubricating oils, oil and gas additives and synthetic fibre used in the textile industry are produced from natural gas. The Turkmen leader noted that the work in these areas was carried out in close cooperation with the world’s major companies.

Dwelling upon the development prospects of the domestic gas chemical industry, the Turkmen leader noted that the government delegation of our country had signed the agreements on the construction of a number of large-scale industrial enterprises during the official visit to Japan in September last year.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the new plant was to be built jointly by Turkmengaz State Concern and the consortium of Japanese Kawasaki and Turkish Ronesans Holding. The plant supplied with state-of-the-art equipment from Danish Haldor Topsoe will process 1.785 billion cubic metres of natural gas and produce 600,000 tons of A-92 gasoline meeting the environmental standard Euro-5. The total project cost is US$ 1.7 billion. The project will be implemented using the investment of Japanese partners and the funds of Turkmengaz State Concern.

The Turkmen leader noted that the large-scale industrial facility would be the world's first gas chemical complex producing high-quality environmentally friendly gasoline from natural gas. The plant will be put into operation in 2018 and create about 800 jobs in the region. Local specialists will be trained to operate the manufacturing process at the enterprise while the plant is being built.

In conclusion, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated the ceremony participants on the remarkable event.

President and CEO of Haldor Topsoe Bjerne Clausen, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Ronesans Holding Erman Ilıcak, President of Plant & Infrastructure Company and Senior Vice President at Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd Eiji Inoue and CEO and Senior Vice President of Machinery Division at Sojitz Corporation Toshiharu Yoshimura focused on the crucial importance of the project in their speeches.

The ceremony of signing the contract between Turkmengaz State Concern, Kawasaki Heavy Industries (Japan) and Ronesans Holding (Turkey) for the construction of the gasoline producing plant in Ahal Velayat took place.

The Turkmen leader signed a message to future generations in commemoration of the momentous event and put it into the special container. The culmination of the ceremony - the Turkmen leader threw the container with the message to future generations in the foundation pit of the future plant to the applause of those present.

Following the tradition, the Turkmen leader threw the first shovel of concrete into the foundation pit of the plant, thus starting building works.

According to authoritative international expert organisations operating in the energy sector, the contribution of natural gas to global economic growth will continue to increase. So, our country will play an increasingly important role in global energy market. Galkynysh gas field (26.2 trillion cubic metres) discovered in the east of the country vividly testifies to tremendous reserves in the depths of the Turkmen land. The results of the independent international audit showed that Galkynysh holds the world’s second biggest natural gas reserves. The prospects for industrial development of new oil and gas fields are linked to the Amudarya Basin, Central Karakum and offshore and coastal zone of the Caspian Sea.

Upon concluding the ceremony, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated those present on the remarkable event. The Turkmen leader bade cordial farewell and left the ceremony venue.
