President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov left for the Republic of Tajikistan on a woking visit to take part in the meeting of the Council of Heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Member States as a Guest of Honour.
In the Government residence in Dushanbe, the President of Turkmenistan received President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani, who arrived in Tajikistan to take part in the meeting of the Council of Heads of the SCO Member States.
In the Novruz Palace, the venue for the meeting of the Council of Heads of the SCO Member States, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had meetings with President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai.
President of Tajikistan Emomalii Rahmon, who chaired the meeting of the Council of Heads of the SCO Member States, cordially greeted the President of Turkmenistan at the Didor Hall in the Novruz Palace.
The official ceremony of photographing of all participants of the meeting - heads of states and delegations, as well as Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the Director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation took place before the meeting.
Presidents of the SCO member states, heads and high-ranking representatives of the SCO observer states, distinguished guests, as well as representatives of a number of international organisations, including the United Nations Organisation arrived in Dushanbe to participate in the Summit.
Opening the meeting and cordially greeting all those present, President of Tajikistan Emomalii Rahmon gave floor to forum participants.
Speaking during the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined the significance of preserving and strengthening the long-term stability and security. In this regard, the necessity to use the existing political and diplomatic means and methods to find generally acceptable solutions at the world platform is obvious. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan highly evaluated the constructive, balanced and responsible position the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation towards strengthening peace, international and regional stability and security, responding to challenges and threats of the 21st century and building a fair system of intergovernmental relations. Underlining the readiness of our country for active collaboration with the SCO in fulfilling these critical tasks, the Turkmen leader proposed to concert the efforts to promote the specific proposals to enhance collective measures for strengthening regional and international security and developing the systematic multilateral conflict prevention mechanisms.
In this regard, focusing on the issues related to the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, the President of Turkmenistan noted that Turkmenistan as the nearest neighbour of Afghanistan was interested in the speedy socio-economic recovery of this brotherly country and the establishment of longstanding peace and cohesion in the Afghan land. The Turkmen leader underlined the readiness of the Turkmen side to work with SCO Member States and Afghanistan on discussion of the ways of settling the situation in the country.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highly appreciated the prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the SCO in the economic sphere, and specified power energy and transport among the priority areas of collaboration.
In the afternoon, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had meetings with National Security and Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for Saraj Aziz and Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India Sushma Swaraj.
On behalf of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan an official dinner was given in honour of the heads of states and delegations taken part in the SCO Summit.
The President of Turkmenistan also had a meeting with Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.
The meeting between the President of Turkmenistan and the President of the Republic of Tajikistan took place in the Presidential Palace.
Upon completion of the meeting, the Turkmen leader headed to the International Airport and left Dushanbe for Turkmenistan.
