A meeting of the State Security Council

President of Turkmenistan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General of the Army Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a meeting of the State Security Council, during which the work done by the military and law enforcement agencies for the first quarter of the year to maintain peace and cohesion in the country was discussed.

The high-ranking officials presented the detailed reports on the measures taken to strengthen the material and technical base of the armed forces, the current situation at the agencies under their supervision and the fulfilment of the Turkmen leader’s instructions.

The reports on the work done in the framework of the on-going military reform and consistent measures taken to cement the foundations of national security and maintain the favourable social and political climate in the country were presented.

The information on the current situation on the state border and the work done by the State Border Guard Service in January-March was presented.

The reports on the measures taken to improve professional and combat skills of military servants and create favourable conditions for service of military servants and comfortable life of their families were presented.

The information on the measures taken to maintain public order and stability, protect legitimate rights and freedoms of citizens and prevent various offenses, including road traffic offences, was presented. The report on the measures taken to facilitate smooth traffic flow in all the regions of Turkmenistan, particularly in the capital, was presented.

The information on operational activities and consistent measures, in particular awareness raising activities among citizens, taken to prevent drug trafficking and drug abuse was presented.

The report on the measures taken to conduct customs inspection using advanced equipment at the international customs terminal in Ashgabat and improve professional skills of customs officers was presented.

President of Turkmenistan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General of the Army Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave specific instructions to the high-ranking officials present at the meeting, specifying the tasks and objectives they were to achieve on a short term. In particular, emphasis was placed on the importance of maintaining strict control of discipline among military servants and law enforcement officers and construction of modern building complexes of military camps, military units, frontier posts, administrative buildings and comfortable apartment houses which should meet quality requirements and construction schedule.

Summing up the meeting, the Turkmen leader expressed satisfaction with the work done since the beginning of the year, noting that the state would continue to pay the closest attention to the strengthening of the national army and the creation of favourable conditions for life and service of the valiant defenders of the Motherland and their families.

Other issues were discussed and the decisions were adopted during the meeting of the State Security Council.
