The ceremony of conferring the academic degree of Honorary Doctor of the Sungkyunkwan University to the President of Turkmenistan took place in the conference hall of the University.
Scientists, professors and students of the university as well as members of the official delegation of Turkmenistan gathered together in the conference hall on occasion of this remarkable event.
Opening the solemn ceremony, the Chairman of the Academic Council of the Sungkyunkwan University, Head of the Postgraduate Study Department briefed the audience on the large-scale scientific work carried out by the President of Turkmenistan. It was noted that fundamental reforms had been implemented in the country on the initiative and under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan with the aim to bring the Turkmen science up to new high levels and build up mutually beneficial international cooperation in this sphere.
The decision taken by the members of the Academic Council of the University on conferring the academic degree of Honorary Doctor of the Sungkyunkwan University to the President of Turkmenistan was announced in the atmosphere of special solemnity. This title was conferred to the leader of the Turkmen state for his profound contribution to strengthening friendly brotherly relations between peoples of Turkmenistan and Korea and his outstanding services in promoting bilateral contacts in the spheres of science and education.
It was noted that the Honorary Degree had been awarded to a President of a state for the first time.
To the applause of those present, the Head of the University presented the diploma to the President of Turkmenistan and dressed the Turkmen leader in an academic robe.
Addressing those present, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed his heartfelt gratitude for conferring the academic title of Honorary Doctor of the Sungkyunkwan University, one of the top universities in Asia that was founded over 600 years ago.
“I consider it as a token of respect to Turkmenistan, the recognition of our country’s achievements in the sphere of science and education, the evidence of friendship between the people of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea”, said President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
“Within the framework of wide international cooperation in the spheres of science and education, Turkmenistan is interested in Korean experience in creation of innovative resources, know-how, development and implementation of modern managerial decisions in various areas”, said the President of Turkmenistan.
Calling for building up direct relations between Magtymguly Turkmen State University and the Sungkyunkwan University, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the universities could share their experience with each other. The Turkmen leader also underlined the usefulness and necessity to implement joint educational programmes.
Speaking about student exchange programmes between the two states, the Turkmen leader underlined the significance of talks held with the government of the Republic of Korea. The prospects for increasing the number of Turkmen students in higher educational institutions in Korea were discussed within the framework of the top-level talks. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov confirmed the willingness of our country to accept students and teachers from Korea majoring in the rich history and culture of Turkmenistan, its foreign and internal policy.
