President of Turkmenistan receives Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Ambassador Miroslav Jenca, who was completing his diplomatic mission in our country.

Taking the opportunity, the guest expressed sincere gratitude to the leader of the Turkmen state and the Turkmen people for providing support and assistance all these years that had effectuated the activities of the UN Regional Centre to the utmost.

It was emphasized that the United Nations viewed Turkmenistan as a reliable and responsible partner as illustrated by the location of the headquarters of the major regional agency of the United Nations in Ashgabat.

The UNRCCA, inaugurated in Ashgabat in December 2007, has been providing assistance in building up regional cooperation and establishing a fruitful dialogue on peaceful, consensual resolution of the emerging issues all these years. Confirming the continued commitment of Turkmenistan to strategic partnership with the United Nations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that our country that pursued the policy based on the principles of positive neutrality, peacefulness and good neighbourliness would always be committed to broad international cooperation through the active involvement in addressing the urgent problems of our time. It was noted the process was facilitated by the status of neutrality delegated to the Turkmen state, the 20th anniversary of which will be marked by a number of major events widely and solemnly held in the country and abroad during the anniversary year.

Focusing with satisfaction on the high fruitfulness of Turkmenistan-UN dialogue, the Turkmen leader commended the tremendous contribution made by Miroslav Jenca to strengthen and expand long-term constructive joint work.

Thanking for appreciating his work of many years, the Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, who was appointed Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, assured the Turkmen leader that the United Nations appreciated and fully supported the efforts of independent Turkmenistan in achieving the key goals of the third millennium, as evidenced by the recent election of Turkmenistan to the Executive Council of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.

Ambassador Miroslav Jenca said that he considered it a great honour to work in Turkmenistan that he associated the kindest feelings and impressions with and expressed belief that fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations would continue.
