The talks between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella took place at the Quirinal Palace in Rome.
The leaders of the two countries held the one-on-one talks and the meeting involving the government delegations.
President Sergio Mattarella expressed belief that the visit would give a new impetus to build up fruitful bilateral relations. He said that Turkmenistan and Italy have a positive experience of cooperation in the political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, noting also that the essential factors for promoting bilateral relations included a high level of mutual understanding.
The President of Turkmenistan congratulated his Italian counterpart on the successful opening of the World Expo 201, which focuses on the theme of current importance to the global community, such as food topics. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan and Italy have ample opportunities to implement joint projects in such key fields as energy, agriculture, transport and communications and tourism.
The Turkmen leader said that our country was celebrating the 20th anniversary of the status of neutrality this year and invited his Italian counterpart to attend the high-level conference, which will take place in Ashgabat in December this year.
After the talks had concluded, the motorcade of the President of Turkmenistan headed to the airport.
