President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Mr. Elhadj As Sy.
It was noted that the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan performed its mission, taking an active part in the on-going social and economic reforms in the new historical epoch. At the present stage, the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan sees its main objective in the facilitation of the progressive reforms and projects of national importance aimed at strengthening the highly humanistic principles in Turkmen society, meeting the interests of citizens, enhancing the status of the institution of family and improving the social sphere. In this regard, Mr. Elhadj As Sy expressed his sincere gratitude to the Turkmen leader for providing effective support towards the implementation of a number of Turkmenistan-IFRC cooperation projects.
Confirming that Turkmenistan was committed to the policy of peace and good neighbourly relations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of the humanitarian aspect of cooperation with different countries.
The Turkmen state takes an active part in the peaceful revival of Afghanistan, contributing to its social and economic recovery. In particular, Turkmenistan has been providing economic and humanitarian assistance to the neighbouring country over many years. In this context, the President of Turkmenistan said that our country was implementing the Action Plan for the Regional Infrastructure Confidence Building Measures in the framework of the “Istanbul Process”.
The Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said that together with all countries of the world, he supported the Turkmen leader’s initiatives and proposals and the status of neutrality of Turkmenistan.
Focusing on the humanitarian aspects of the Turkmen leader’s policy, the guest stressed that Turkmenistan aimed its initiatives to improve the quality and standard of living of peoples of the world and all mankind. In this context, emphasis was placed on the importance of strengthening early warning systems for natural hazards and the need to create, manage and develop the necessary infrastructure in the regions.
Stressing the significant role of the ambitious projects of national and regional importance launched by Turkmenistan, the Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies expressed his gratitude to the Turkmen leader for his leadership in addressing the pressing issues of our time. Mr. Elhadj As Sy said that Turkmenistan could be proud of the progress made in avoiding the potential problems which have negative impacts on global human development, assuring that the IFRC that comprises 189 member Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies would continue to pursue its noble humanitarian mission.
