Turkmenistan widely and solemnly celebrated the remarkable date – the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the 1941-1945 war on May 9. Festivities in honour of the national heroes, who defended the Fatherland bravely and heroically against fascism in the 1941-1945 demonstrating the unprecedented example of fortitude, honour and patriotism in those fiery years, took place throughout the country.

… By tradition, early in the morning, thousands of citizens and guests of Ashgabat came to the Halk Hakydasy Memorial Complex monument to pay tribute to the cherished memory of their fellow countrymen, who never returned home from the fields of the bloodiest war in human history. The cabinet ministers, the heads of the national parliament, military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, public organisations, mullahs and students gathered together at the monument. The ceremony participants included the heads of diplomatic representations and missions accredited to Turkmenistan.

War veterans and those who worked day and night on the home front during the severe years of war were honorary participants of the festivities. Turkmen soldiers, who defend the Turkmen borders, our independence and peaceful sky over our Motherland stood together with war veterans.

Heroic deeds and work of our compatriots shown during the 1941-1945 is a good example of patriotism and selflessness. Thousands of Turkmen people showed boundless courage and bravery, standing shoulder to shoulder with other fraternal peoples in the battle with the enemy. Among them was the grandfather of the President of Turkmenistan - Berdimuhamed Annaev, whose way of life is the model of true patriotism, boundless courage, honour and love for the Motherland for the present generation of the Turkmen people.

Thousands of our compatriots were awarded orders and medals for courage and bravery shown in the most tragic and terrible period in human history - during the 1941-1945 war. Many Turkmen soldiers were awarded the title of Hero. The glory of our brave and courageous ancestors who defended the freedom and independence of the Motherland is inscribed into the history of our people with golden letters.

…The national anthem of Turkmenistan was played symbolizing the beginning of the solemn ceremony.

A wonderful wreath of flowers was laid on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the foot of the memorial monument.

Following the Turkmen leader, the war veterans, cabinet ministers, heads of the Mejlis, military and law enforcement agencies, public associations, foreign diplomats, numerous representatives of labour collectives, citizens and guests of Ashgabat laid flowers to the monument to the accompaniment of the wonderful melody. The ceremony participants observed a minute in the memory of the glorious sons of the Turkmen people who put their life on the altar of Great Victory.

A fragrant carpet of fresh spring flowers covered the memorial monument a few minutes later. The guard of honour marched in front of the monument, measuring their steps.

The ceremonies of laying flowers and sadaqahs were given in honour of the 69th anniversary of Great Victory in all cities and villages of Turkmenistan.
