Talks between President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Borut Pahor

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has arrived in the Republic of Slovenia for an official visit today.

The motorcade of the President of Turkmenistan headed from the airport to Brdo Castle, where the official greeting ceremony took place at the residence of the President of the Republic of Slovenia.

Highly evaluating the meeting with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President Borut Pahor said that the agenda of the top-level talks covered a wide range of issues related to intensification of intergovernmental cooperation in the whole spectrum. Focusing with satisfaction on the similarity or coincidence of views of the two states on the topical issues of international politics, the Slovenian leader emphasized the mutual willingness of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Slovenia to contribute to peace, security and stability on regional and global scale. In this context, President Borut Pahor emphasized the importance of the status of neutrality of Turkmenistan that was playing a key role in the Central Asian region. The leader of the friendly country said that this international status was of utmost importance for cooperation of Turkmenistan with different countries of the world, including the Republic of Slovenia. In this regard, President Borut Pahor stressed that Slovenia, in its turn, sought to establish fruitful relations with all countries.

On behalf of the delegation of Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked President Borut Pahor for inviting to pay an official visit to Slovenia, extending the warm welcome and hospitality and creating the favourable conditions for fruitful joint work. The Turkmen leader emphasized that our country was attaching great importance to the visit to Slovenia.

Dwelling on the agenda of the top-level talks that focused on the prospects for promoting trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian relations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan considered cooperation with the Republic of Slovenia in the context of an effective dialogue with the European Union.

The ceremony of signing the bilateral documents took place after the talks had concluded.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Borut Pahor put their signatures to the Joint Statement to the applause of those present.

The Agreement on Cooperation in Transport Sector between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, the Agreement on International Motor Transportation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Culture between the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, the Programme of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia for 2015-2016 and the Agreement on Scientific Cooperation between the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts were signed.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Miro Cerar arranged the business lunch in honour of the President of Turkmenistan. The sides exchanged views on key aspects of bilateral cooperation in the context of the outcomes of the top-level talks and the prospects for building up mutually beneficial partnership in its main fields.

In conclusion, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Miro Cerar exchanged the wishes of prosperity, happiness and every success to the people of Turkmenistan and Slovenia.

An official reception was given in honour of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on behalf of President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor at Brdo Castle. The two leaders exchanged the speeches during the official reception.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the Lipizzan Complex, where the Turkmen leader could see the horses of the local breed. The jockeys told the Turkmen leader about the distinguishing features of the horses bred at the Lipizzan Complex and their performance and achievements in international competitions.

The President of Turkmenistan continues his official visit to Slovenia.
