President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who was on an official visit to the Republic of Austria, had a meeting with OSCE Secretary General Mr. Lamberto Zannier.
Expressing deep gratitude for the opportunity of a personal meeting, the head of the leading international organisation congratulated the leader of the Turkmen state on the success of the Turkmen-Austrian top-level talks that demonstrated the intention of the two countries to comprehensively deepen the traditional mutually beneficial cooperation.
It was noted that an active, constructive dialogue in the interests of peace and global wellbeing laid the foundation of the multifaceted fruitful partnership between Turkmenistan and a number of authoritative international organisations, including the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe with the Secretariat located in Vienna.
Cordially greeting the OSCE Secretary General, the Turkmen leader thanked him for the high assessment of the peace-loving policy pursued in our country and noted that our country as an OSCE member called for continuation of the successful long-term cooperation aimed at promoting the global development processes.
The Turkmen leader and the OSCE Secretary General discussed the key aspects of further joint work, in particular enhancement of the energy dialogue and cooperation in ensuring energy supply security given that this problem affects the vital interests of the majority of OSCE participating states and has a direct impact on the stability of the geostrategic situation on the continent and in the world.
Highly evaluating the effectiveness of the important joint projects implemented in recent years and focusing on the role of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat in their implementation,, the sides exchanged their views on the prospects for future cooperation in a number of other key areas as well as the necessity to consolidate the efforts to ensure security, stability and sustainable development in the region.
In this regard, the security of transport transit corridors aimed at facilitating the existing and future trade and freight flows between Asia and Europe and creating an enabling environment for sustainable economic development of the region was specified as a key priority of the mutually beneficial cooperation.
Emphasizing the significant importance of this aspect, the Turkmen leader expressed belief that the adoption of the resolution initiated by Turkmenistan on the role of transport and transit corridors in promoting international cooperation by the UN General Assembly would attract global attention to this urgent issue and offer an incentive to develop further the constructive dialogue at the interstate and international levels.
