President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a joint meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the State Security Council and Mejlis. The Turkmen leader congratulated those present on Constitution and Magtymguly Fraghi’s Poetry Day, celebrated each year in our country on May 18.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the Decree on the pardon of the convicted persons in honour of the upcoming national holiday. In accordance with the Decree, 1,202 citizens are to be pardoned. The Turkmen leader instructed the high-ranking officials of the agencies and local governments to ensure that the persons pardoned by the President would celebrate the holiday together with their families and find jobs.
The President approved the state programmes aimed at increasing the export volume and promoting the manufacture of import-substituting goods. The programmes provide for the implementation of 33 projects in the chemical, light, pharmaceutical and food industries, machine building, industry and agriculture and 81 projects of the plants producing building, chemical, consumer and other products from local raw materials. It is planned to build the plants processing and producing meat and dairy, fruit, vegetable and fish products.
It was reported that the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan would be held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek on May 22-24. The information on the preparation of the celebrations in honour of Constitution and Magtymguly Fraghi’s Poetry Day, Ashgabat Day, School Leavers’ Day and Turkmen Carpet Day celebrated in May was presented.
The report on the preparations for the VI International Gas Congress of Turkmenistan and an international exhibition, which will take place in the Avaza national tourism zone on May 19-21, was presented. The forum will bring together over 250 foreign delegates, representing government agencies, international organisations, specialized departments and leading oil and gas companies from over 30 countries.
The information on seasonal agricultural activities was presented. Farmers had completed the lambing campaign and were involved in storing fodder.

The report on the measures taken by the Ministry of Communications to purchase and install digital telephone exchanges was presented. In order to install telephones and increase capacity of digital telephone exchanges in remote areas, experts of the Ministry of Communications prepared the engineering materials, which provide for the installation of 203 telephone exchanges and 134,656 telephone points in 182 settlements so as to ensure access to high-speed Internet.
The report on the progress in implementing the Ashgabat urban development programme was presented. Along with reconstruction of existing city roads and construction of new ones, apartment houses were being built in the residential areas Parahat-7/2 and Koshi. The measures are taken to refurbish the facades of houses and administrative buildings and improve the territories adjacent to buildings and houses.
The information on the preparations for the opening ceremony of the new administrative building of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry was presented. Favourable conditions for large-scale forums, trade fairs, conferences, presentations, business meetings and cultural events are created in the new building which occupies a total area of over 56,600 square metres. It houses the outdoor exhibition areas with a total area of 10,000 square metres, printing house, press centre, canteen, car parks, etc.
The report on the preparations for the opening ceremony of the foreign trade terminal of the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange in Serahs Etrap in Ahal Velayat was presented.
The high-ranking military and law enforcement officials reported on the current situation in the agencies under their supervision and the measures taken to strengthen the foundations of security of the state and ensure a peaceful and constructive life of citizens.

Politicians and representatives of public organisations and higher educational institutions will participate in the forum.
