President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Chairman of the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC, the national railway company of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin.

Expressing satisfaction with the progressive development of the Turkmen-Kazakh dialogue, the Turkmen leader underlined the significance of building up efficient cooperation in the interest of the whole region.

Particular attention was paid to the prospects for widening cooperation in such strategic area as transport. Construction of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran transnational railway, which is recognized as an important link of the North-South corridor under construction, vividly exemplifies successful partnership.

It was noted that the main railway line between the three countries that was put into operation in December, 2014 has become a new bridge for transcontinental transportation at the Eurasian continent.

In the framework of the meeting, the Chairman of the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC presented the projects on the further development of the transport and logistical sphere in the region to the Turkmen leader. Among them are the projects on widening transit flows and increasing the volumes of cargo traffic along the Trans-Caspian route and in the North-South direction as well as establishing regular logistic services.

According to the preliminary estimates, given intensification of trading relations in the region, the volume of transportations along the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran line could reach 15 million tons by 2020. This, in its turn, will allow raising relevant transit revenues, taking mutual advantage of the joint activity and increasing the financial stability of the economies of the countries participating in the project that will have access to the ports in the Persian Gulf and the promising market in India.

The project on increasing the freight traffic flow using the opportunities of the Lianyungang Port in the People’s Republic of China given the prospects for increasing the volume of transit shipments from China via the North-South and West-East transport corridors is of particular interest for the both countries.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan Orman Nurbaev attended the meeting.
