President of Turkmenistan Grbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in Baku to attend the opening ceremony of the European Games, held a meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The leaders of the two states discussed important issues of interstate cooperation and the progress of implementation of bilateral agreements.
Thanking the President of Turkmenistan for participation in the sports festival in Baku, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev underlined the interest of his country in strengthening and further development of good neighbourly relations between the two states.
Expressing gratitude for a cordial welcome to the delegation of Turkmenistan, including volunteers, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated the people of Azerbaijan, who had received an honour to host this representative sports forum, and wished Azerbaijani sportsmen successes in forthcoming contests.
The leaders of the two states expressed belief that cooperation between the countries would successfully develop in the near future. The prospects of cooperation in the sphere of power security, in particular the possibilities of supplying natural gas from the Caspian region to Europe and establishing a modern transit and transport infrastructure given the advantageous geographical location of the neighbouring states that possess huge hydrocarbon resources were discussed during the meeting.
The leader of the Turkmen state thanked the President of Azerbaijan for organization of festive events in honour of the 290th anniversary of Magtymguly Fraghi in Azerbaijan and invited Ilham Aliyev to participate in the celebrations on occasion of the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality.
Particular attention was paid to building up cooperation in the sphere of sports.
