President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, who arrived in Ashgabat on an official visit.
The President of Turkmenistan noted that the United Nations Organisation had provided significant assistance to our country in the economic, ecological and other areas of the national development as well as in formation and improvement of democratic institutions and our country highly appreciated this.
A number of UN specialized agencies and institutions, including the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Children's Fund, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the United Nations Population Fund work in our country on a permanent basis. The United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia has successfully operatated in our country for seven years.
Upon completion of the talks President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon gave a press conference.
It was noted that particular attention during the meeting was paid to the status and prospects for bilateral cooperation as well as the issues of regional and international policy. The sides reaffirmed the willingness of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Organisation for further development of cooperation in various areas and underlined vast opportunities for this.
