The ceremony of awarding the academic title of Honorary Academician of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences to the President of Turkmenistan took place at the National Library of Georgia.
Representatives of public organisations and professors of higher educational institutions of Georgia and the members of the official delegation of Turkmenistan attended the awarding ceremony.
In his opening remarks President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences Giorgi Kvesitadze emphasized that this day would go down into history of international relations as a significant event. He noted that the peoples of Turkmenistan and Georgia had historically established friendly and cultural relations. In the present epoch, relations between the two countries have been maintained in a worthy manner and filled with new content, including in the spheres of science and education.
Giorgi Kvesitadze briefed the audience on the large-scale research activities of the Turkmen leader, at whose initiative and under whose leadership the drastic reforms were being implemented to bring Turkmenistan up to the level of developed countries, including Turkmen science to the new frontiers, and promote mutually beneficial international cooperation in this sphere and announced the decision of the Academic Council of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences to award the academic title of Honorary Academician to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The academic title was awarded to the Turkmen leader for his tremendous contribution to the strengthening of friendly relations between the Turkmen and Georgian peoples and his outstanding achievements in promoting bilateral contacts in the sphere of science.
In a solemn atmosphere, the President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences presented the diploma to the President of Turkmenistan to the applause of those present.
Addressing the audience, the Turkmen leader expressed gratitude for awarding to him the academic title of Honorary Academician of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences.
Focusing with satisfaction on the existing tremendous potential to expand Turkmen-Georgian partnership in the sphere of science, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited the leadership of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences to attend the celebrations in honour of the 20th anniversary of the status of neutrality of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat so that they would see on-going large-scale work on the improvement of the sphere of science with their own eyes and consider the opportunities of cooperation with Turkmen counterparts.
