President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the opening ceremony of the Congress Centre Mejlisler Merkezi in the Turkmen capital. Turkmen and foreign artists presented the gala concert at the ceremony venue on the day when our country was celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Saglyk State Programme and the professional holiday of health and medical industry workers.

The white-marble building that rose up on Archabil Shayoly blends well with the architectural ensemble of the rapidly growing business and cultural centre in the south of Ashgabat.

Mejlisler Merkezi offers the necessary conditions for major international forums and cultural events that the capital of Turkmenistan has been hosting on a regular basis in recent years, as vividly illustrated by the festive activities that took place on that day. The magnificent building represents a harmonious combination of modern ideas of architecture and design and best traditions of national architecture. A useful area of the building, crowned with four small and one large domes with golden spires, is 43,411 square metres.

The high-ranking officials and the representatives of public organisations and the media gathered together to participate in the opening ceremony. Guests included the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan, foreign visitors who arrived in our country to participate in the festive events and foreign businessmen.

The President of Turkmenistan cut the ribbon to the applause of those present – the Congress Centre Mejlisler Merkezi was opened! The Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov headed for the theatre and concert hall of the multifunctional complex designed to host major events.

The theatre and concert hall of Mejlisler Merkezi is impressive; it accommodates 3,000 seats, 1,500 of which are located in the parterre and the rest – in two balconies with 750 seats each. Mejlisler Merkezi houses two rehearsal studios – one intended for dancers will accommodate 200 people and the other - for the orchestra, consisting of up to 49 musicians. Both studios have the control rooms and acoustic equipment.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov warmly greeted the guests and participants in the festive events.

The curtain rose and the concert, involving Turkmen and foreign artists, was performed on the stage of Mejlisler Merkezi. Its programme included the works created by the renowned authors of world classical music and outstanding Turkmen composers.

The Galkynysh Turkmen-Austrian Symphony Orchestra and our foreign guests performed the pieces and arias from the famous operas, including The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini, Tosca by Giacomo Puccini, Don Carlos, Attila, The Sicilian Vespers and La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi, Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni, Carmen by Georges Bizet, Samson and Delilah by Camille Saint-Saens, The Tales of Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach, the operetta Silva by Imre Kalman and The Merry Widow by Franz Lehar.

The audience enjoyed the performance of an aria from Danatar Ovezov’s opera Aina. It should be noted that thanks to the tireless and selfless efforts of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Turkmen opera that is an integral part of national culture has revived, as illustrated by a number of successful opera productions performed in recent years. The opening of Mejlisler Merkezi provided ample opportunities to implement new creative projects.

The audience loudly applauded the artists for the famous Neapolitan song O Sole Mio by Eduardo di Capua, Spanish Song by Leo Delibes and Rhapsody by Kurban Kuliev.

Our foreign guests, who performed on the stage of the Congress Centre Mejlisler Merkezi, included the world-known opera singers Neil Shicoff (USA), Lucia Aliberti (Italy) and Vesselina Kasarova (Switzerland). The audience enjoyed the performance of a soloist at Akhundov Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan Afaq Abbasova, a soloist at G.
